JOHN W. PINKERTON
1883-1963

John W. Pinkerton, 79, well known local resident, died at his
home, 384 Stafford Street, at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, July 27, after
an illness of six months.

A native of Carter County, Mr. Pinkerton was born September 5,
1883, a son of the late John D. and Elizabeth Johnson Pinkerton.
A former Van Lear resident and retired miner, Mr. Pinkerton had
made his home in this city for eighteen years. A veteran of World
War I, he was a member of the First Baptist Church and of Van Lear
Lodge No. 885.

He was married in this county September 24, 1919, to the former
Emma Chandler, who survives. Other survivors include five sons,
John Wesley Pinkerton, Pikeville; H. D. Pinkerton, Grand Prairie,
Texas; Charles Pinkerton of this city; Rosco Pinkerton, Akron,
Ohio; Richard L. Pinkerton, Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs.
Charlene Baldridge, Frenchburg; two half brothers, William
Pinkerton, Rand, W. Va.; Raymond Pinkerton, Elk View, W. Va.; a
half sister, Mrs. Ethel Martin, Cedar Grove, W. Va.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday at the
First Baptist with the Reverend James Wallace, pastor,
officiating.

Burial was in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville. Graveside
rites were conducted by the Van Lear Masonic Lodge.
