Mrs. Elizabeth May Powell, died Tuesday, May 29, at her Second Street home in
Paintsville after an extended illness.
 
Mrs. Powell was born January 14, 1897 in Johnson County, the daughter of
Clark and Julia Rice May.
 
She had been employed as a school teacher and had been a member of the First
Baptist Church for 51 years.
 
Mrs. Powell was chairman of the Johnson County Republican Party State Central
Committee.
 
Surviving are her husband, Glenn Powell, a son, Dr. Glenn R. Powell of
Paintsville; three brothers, Paris May of Salyersville, Rice May of Florida
and Ellis May of Newport; and three grandchildren.
 
Funeral services were held Friday, April 1, in the First Baptist church with
Dr. Charles Milam officiating.
 
Burial was in the Highland Memorial Gardens at Staffordsville with Jones-
Preston Funeral Home handling arrangements.
