Wreck Tuesday Kills Foreman Of Ashland Oil Powers Dies Of
Injuries; Harmon's Condition Reported Satisfactory Two men were
injured, one fatally, in a highway accident which occurred about
7:30 Tuesday morning near Falcon, 4.3 miles east of
Salyersville.

James Powers, Oil Springs, a foreman for Ashland Oil and
Refining Company, died in a local hospital about an hour later
from head injuries.

Arthur Harmon, 27, Barnett's Creek, a roustabout for Ashland
Oil, sustained a fractured skull, cuts and bruises. His
condition was reported as satisfactory by hospital attendants.

The men were traveling towards Salyersville in a 1954 Willys
half-ton truck with Powers driving when the accident occurred.
According to State Trooper Jack Music, the truck slid on a wet,
oily pavement, hit an abutment and plunged over an embankment,
landed on its top in a creek. The door of the truck had to be
removed before the men could be reached, it was reported.

Powers is survived by his wife and one son, Melvin Powers, a
teacher in the county schools and co-owner of the Tiger Drive-In
and the Family Store.
