CHARLIE RICE
1894-1972
Retired miner Charlie Rice, 78, of Wittensville, succumbed Monday, October
9, at the Paintsville Hospital after a brief illness.
The son of Ben and Tish Witten Rice, he was born at Nippa, April 1894. He
was a member of the Methodist Church, and a former member of the Johnson
County Board of Education.
He is survived by his wife, Wannie Mae Osborne Rice, five sons and four
daughters. They include, Charlie Joe Rice of Wittensville, Virgil Rice of
Washington Court House, OH, James rice of Yellow Springs, OH, Billie Carl
Rice of Richmond, VA, Wilbur Rice of Sidney, OH, Mrs. Emily Fyffe of
Paintsville, Mrs. Venus Wellman of Ashland, Mrs. Betty Jo Blair of Louisa,
and Mrs. Grace Looker of Troy, OH. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren and
six great grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, October 11 at the Rush Fork Methodist Church,
with Rev. Billie Carl Rice officiating.
Burial was in the Family cemetery at Wittensville. Pall bearers were William
Rice, Walter Clay Osborne, James Meadows, Vencil Meadows, Bill Meadows, and
George Meadows.
The Preston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
