Mother of Nine Dies Dec. 22 Services Held Today For Mary Rice, 82 Mrs. Mary
Rice, widow of the late Sheridan Rice of East Point died at 4:30 a.m.
Monday, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Thomas George at West Van Lear. She
had been ill for the past three years.
"Aunt Mary," as she was known, was born February 3, 1876 in Floyd County, a
daughter of the late Logan and Clarenda Robinson Baldridge. She was a
member of the First Church of God.
Surviving are three sons, John W. Rice, Prestonsburg; Byron Rice, Tucumcari,
N.M.; Ernest Rice, Flint, Mich. and six daughters, Mrs. George, Mrs. Georgie
Conley, Mrs. Jake Vaughan, Mrs. Willie Boyd, all of Prestonsburg; Mrs.
Herbert Griffith, Cincinnati, Oh. and Mrs. A.F. Desney, Ashland; also two
brothers, Sam Baldridge, West Van Lear, and Edd Baldridge, East Point, two
sisters, Fannie Nickels, Ironton, Oh. and Martha Robinson, Auxier, Ky.
Funeral services were held today at 2:00 p.m. at the First Church of God at
East Point by Rev. Moses Kitchen, Rev. Robert Kitchen and Rev. G.B. Allen.
Burial was in the family cemetery.
