Cal Selvage, 79, died Thursday, November 13, in Highlands Regional Medical
Center following an illness of several weeks.
 
Son of the late John and Martha Hitchcock Selvage, he was born in Johnson
County October 8, 1896.
 
A resident of Van Lear for 49 years, he was a retired miner. He was a member
of the Freewill Baptist Church and the UMWA. He was preceded in death by his
first wife, Audrey Williams Selvage on January 26, 1972. Surviving are his
second wife, Elizabeth Leake Selvage; three daughters, Juanita Hunter of
Jacksonville, FL, Neva Jean Barker, Taylor, MI, and Betty Moore of Van Lear;
three brothers, Add of West Van Lear, Clete of Denver and Dewey of
Staffordsville; two sisters, Mrs. Octava Ealey and Mrs. Myrtle Fairchild,
both of Paintsville; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
 
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 16 in the Freewill Baptist
church at Van Lear with Reverends Jesse Blankenship, Charles Banks and Toby
Wheeler officiating.
 
Burial was in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville with Paintsville
Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
