Thealka resident George Smith, 60, died Sunday, February 14, at his home.
Mr. Smith was born June 22, 1921, in Johnson County, the son of James and
Margaret Laney Smith. He was an employee of Wolf Creek Colleries and a
member of the Thealka Freewill Baptist Church.
 
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Lizzie Blanton Smith, who
he married May 3, 1941, in Paintsville, three sons, Charley Ray, Boons Camp,
James Albert, Thelma, and Larry Douglas, Paintsville, four daughters,
Carolyn Jean Ward, Van Lear, Barbara Faye Chase and Vickie Lynn Case,
Paintsville, and Geroge Ann Smith, Thealka; three brothers, John and Bill
Smith, Thealka, and Ben Smith, Hager Hill; four sisters, Mrs. Alafair Castle
and Mrs. Marie Tackett, Thealka, Mrs. Ruth Castle, Nippa, and Mrs. Mae
Laney, Hammond, and eight grandchildren.
 
Funeral services were held Thursday, February 18, in Preston Funeral Home
Chapel with John Frank Ratliff and Bill Meadows officiating.
 
Burial was in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.
