GEORGE E. SMITH
1917-1976
George Smith, 58, died Wednesday, January 14 in the C & O Hospital in
Huntington, WV following an extended illness.
He was the son of the late James and Maude Adams Smith and was born April
22, 1917 in Lawrence County. A resident of Paintsville he was a retired
special agent of the C & O Railroad and was a member of the First United
Methodist Church and the Paintsville Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Nevolyn Childers Smith, a son, Jim Smith of
Paintsville, a daughter, Connie Jo Smith of Bowling Green, a brother, Manley
Smith of Dayton, OH, and three grandchildren, Robin Johnson, Jamie Smith and
George Todd Smith.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 16 in the Jones-Preston Funeral
Home with Rev. Woody Church officiating.
Burial was in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville with Jones-
Preston Funeral Home handling arrangements.
Serving as pallbearers were James Lemaster, Sid Endicott, Charles Dills, Roy
VanHoose, Everly Wheeler, and Paul Picklesimer.
