FANNIE SOWARDS
1894-1978
Fannie (Shug) Sowards, died Sunday, March 19, in Miami Valley Hospital,
Dayton, OH after an extended illness.
Born June 27, 1894 in Johnson County, she was the daughter of Dan and Carrie
Melvin Roberts and a resident of Englewood, OH. Her husband, John Leonard
Sowards, Sr., preceded her in death.
Surviving are three sons, Charles Sowards, Grove City, OH, John L. Sowards,
Jr., Dayton, OH, and D. H. Sowards, Ft. Worth, TX, a daughter, Mrs. Freda
Lyons, Sitka; and two sisters, Geneve Lambert, Huntington, WV, and Jessie
Miller, Paintsville; 16 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 23, in Jones-Preston Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Scott Castle and Rev. Bruce Daniels officiating.
Burial was in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville with Jones-
Preston Funeral Home handling arrangements.
