Elder Cullie J. Sparks, 87, died Thursday, July 17 in Lexington following an
extended illness.
 
Mr. Sparks was born March 27, 1899 in Johnson County, the son of William and
Ida Gardner Sparks. He was a resident of Lexington, a retired merchant and a
member of the River United Baptist Church. He had been a minister since
1939.
 
Surviving are his wife, Hazel Meade Sparks, who he married February 24, 1926
in Paintsville, two sons Lee Sparks of Lexington and Cullie Sparks, Jr., of
Oak Ridge, TN; two daughters, Betty Harp and Frances Gullett, both of
Lexington, 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
 
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 20 in River United Baptist Church
with B. C. Ferguson, Bruce Howard and Charles Price officiating.
 
Burial was in Highland Memorial Park with Preston Funeral Home in charge of
arrangements.
 
Serving as pallbearers were Jimmy, Lee, Brian, Ray and Greg Sparks, Leon
Gullett, Bobby and Charles Shely.
