Mrs. Anna Bowens
Boling, 68, wife of Millard Boling, of West Van Lear, died at her home
Thursday morning following an illness of 18 months. Born at Boons Camp,
September 12 1884, she was the daughter of Lige and Minnie Murray
Bowens.
She was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church. Surviving besides her
husband are two sons, Paul Boling, Lackey, Ky.; and Orville Boling,
Ironton,
Ohio; six daughters, Mrs. Ollie Sexton, St Helen, Oregon; Mrs. Gertrude
Runyon, Kermit, W. Va.; Mrs. Myrtle Ratliff, West Van Lear; Mrs Thelma
Murray, White House, Ky.; Mrs. Ethel Sanders, Toledo, Ohio; and Mrs.
Nellie
Webb, Lancer, Ky.; and 24 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
Other
survivors include two brothers, John Bowens, Tomahawk; and Sam Bowens,
Matewan, W. Va.; and two sisters, Mysilbe Mollette, Tomahawk; and
Margaret
Bowens, Denver. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at the home
with Will Horn as officiating minister. Burial was made in the Cumbo
Cemetery
at West Van Lear under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home.

Kills
Philemon Brown Rites at McDowell For Oregon Soldier A/3C Philemon
Brown,
21, was killed instantly Wednesday morning April 18, when the car he
was
driving crashed into a telephone pole near Portland, Oregon. Brown, who
was stationed with the 337th Fighter Group, Portland International
Airport,
Portland Oregon, had purchased the 1951 Ford a few days before the
accident.
A friend, Donald Rhines, who was riding in the car, received INCOMPLETE

Carr, 55, who died at his home Tuesday night following an illness of

James and Anna Meyers Carr. He is survived by his wife, Verna Daniels

Conley, 47, a lifelong resident of Nippa, Ky., died Monday morning in a
local hospital after suffering a stroke. Born March 17, 1909, she was

daughter of Anderson and Molly Daniel. She was a member of the Freewill
Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Tollie Conley, four
step-sons,
Willie Conley, Washington Courthouse, Ohio, Willard Conley, Jackson,
Ohio,
Troy Conley, Hager Hill and Charles Conley, Nippa and one
step-daughter,
Mrs. Georgia Skinner, Mt. Sterling, Ohio. Also surviving are five

Gullett, 69, a lifelong resident of the Southside section of
Paintsville,
died Saturday morning at the home of her son in Columbus, Ohio. She had
been living in Columbus for two weeks. The daughter of the late Charlie
and Margaret Castle Bush, she was born in Johnson County May 7, 1886.
She
was a member of the United Baptist Church. She was preceded in death in
May 1943, by her husband, Sherman Gullett, who was an employee of the
Herald
for a number of years. Surviving are six sons, Warren Gullett, Sr.,
Columbus,
OH, William Gullett, Owensboro, KY, Charles Gullett, Lexington, KY,
Paul
Gullett, Canton, OH, Robert Gullett, Cleveland, OH, and Jack Gullett,

the United Baptist Church. Her husband, Jethro McKenzie, preceded her

death, December 9, 1953. Surviving are four sons, Crate McKenzie, Fred
McKenzie, William McKenzie and Dolpha McKenzie all of Sunbury, Ohio;

daughters, Mrs. Chauncery Wheeler, River and miss Elizabeth McKenzie,

40, KILLED INSTANTLY IN OHIO COLLISION
Services Held
Today For Williamsport Man Earl Newsom, 40, Columbus, Ohio a former
resident
of Williamsport, was killed instantly Sunday afternoon, April 29, 1956
when the car he was driving crashed into another car. Three
passengers
in the Newsom car were also killed instantly. The driver of the
other
car is in serious condition in a Columbus, Ohio hospital. The accident
occurred on Route 104, four miles from Chillicothe, Ohio. Newsom, the
son
of Mrs. Dollie Bowens Newsom Crum of Williamsport, and the late John
Newsom,
was employed as a machinist by the Buckeye Steel Castings Company of
Columbus.
He had been a resident there for twelve years. Prior to moving to Ohio,
he served with the U.S. Army in World War II. Surviving besides his
mother
are one brother, Johnnie Newsom, Columbus, Ohio, one sister, Mrs. May
Lamb,
Columbus, O., and one half-brother, Willie Crum, Washington, D.C.
Funeral
services were held at 2:00 p.m. today, Wednesday May 12, 1956 at the
Buffalo
United Baptist Church with Cullie Sparks and Leonard Walters as
officiating

George Reed,
66, a resident of Boons Camp for twenty-seven years, died at his home
Friday
afternoon following an illness of two years. Born August 15, 1889 at
East
Point, he was the son of the late Hiram and Dorcas Freeman Reed. He was
a farmer and miner and a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving
are his wife, Sarah Daniels Reed, five sons, Hiram, Noah, Fred, Dave
and
Tom Reed, all of Boons Camp; two daughters Mrs. Bud Reed and Mrs. Lloyd
Gillispie, both of Boons Camp; 13 grand-children and one
great-grandchild.
Also surviving are one brother, Frank Reed, Boons Camp, and one sister,

she was born October 14, 1885, in Pike County. She was a member

Stapleton, she was born December 6 1870, at Flat Gap. She was a member
of the United Batist Church. Surviving is one sister, Anna McKenzie, of
Flat Gap. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paris Stapleton,

Harlan Stapleton. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the

Ivan VanHoose
70, a retired C and O Railroad employee and a lifelong resident of this
city died suddenly Friday morning of a heart attack. The son of the

Lafe and Lizzie Daniels VanHoose he was born May 23, 1886. He was
preceded
in death March 15, 1947 by his wife, Delesia Sublett VanHoose.
Surviving
are one daughter, Mrs. Thomas J. Carter, Springfield, Ohio, two
grandsons;
Michael and Thomas Carter, and one nephew, Clifford Earl VanHoose of
this
city. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the chapel of the

Ohio, after an illness of 13 years. A former teacher in the Johnson

schools, he became a successful farmer after going to Ohio. Surviving

OBITUARY Leo
Williams,
74, native of Johnson County, died Thursday, April 19, after an illness
of 13 years. He moved to Williamsburg, Ohio several years ago, and was
a successful farmer until his illness. He was the son of Sanford J. and
Lucina Reed Williams, and was a member of one of Johnson County's
oldest
and most prominent families. He joined the United Baptist Church in his
early youth. He expressed great faith in his Lord during his long
illness. In his early life he united in marriage to Allie Lemaster, and
to this union were born four children, two daughter and two sons.
They are: Edith Avey, Deleware, Ohio; Eleanor Klein, Cincinnati, Ohio;
Garth Williams, Belford, Ohio; and Raymond Williams of New Jersey. Also
surviving aare one sister, Rosa Wheeler, wife of Dr. W. H. Wheeler of
Olive
Hill, Ky.; one brother, George Herbert Williams, Indianapolis, Ind.;
eight
grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services
were
conducted in the Williamsburg Funeral Home and burial followed in the
Clover

Tuesday For Millard Williams
Millard F.
Williams,
72 a retired farmer, died Saturday morning at his home at Win, Ky.,
after
suffering a heart attack. Born June 1, 1883, in Johnson County, he was
the son of the late Alex and Susan Bayes Williams. He is survived by
his
wife, May Reed Williams, one daughter, Mrs. Clyde Blanton, Win, Ky.,
and
two grandchildren. Also surviving are six brothers, Charlie Williams,
city,
Dord Williams, Mt. Sterling, Ohio, Tom Williams, Win, Ky., Taylor
Williams,
Red Bush, John Williams, Portsmough, Ohio, and Floyd Williams, Mt.
Sterling,
Ohio. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the home with
Foster
Figsby, Cully Sparks and Vencil Pelphrey as officiating ministers.
Burial
was made in the family cemetery under the direction of the Paintsville

Ashland For James H. Wright
James Henderson
Wright, 73, Ashland, owner of the Wright Wholesale Produce Company of
Huntington,
died Monday in a Huntington hospital. Born November 26, 1882, in
Johnson
County, he was the son of Billy and Sirilda Skaggs Wright. Surviving
are
his wife, Mrs. Lydia Wright, a son, Orville Wright, Nitro, W. Va., a
daugh-
ter, Mrs. America Holbrook, Ashland; a brother, Wayne Wright, Ashland;
and a sister,- Mrs. Laura Gillem, Ashland, and four grandchildren.
Funeral
services were con- ducted in Ashland this morning. Burial was made in
the
family cemetery at Red Bush. Paintsville Herald Wednesday April 11, 1956
