Tammie Elaine Auxier, age four months, died Sunday, April 24, 5:30 a.m.
at the home of her parents, Clarence and Dora May Blair Auxier. She was
born in Paintsville and had lived at Lick Fork. Surviving are a
brother, Ronald and a sister, Brenda, both at home. The funeral was
held Tuesday, April 26, 2 p.m. at the Whitaker Free Will Baptist Church
with Bruce Spencer and Dewey Conley officiating. Burial took place in
the Blair cemetery at Lick Fork under the direction of the Preston

BEERS, Elbert W.
1895-1966
Seventy-year-old Elbert W. Beers died Saturday April 2, 6:00a.m. at the
Veterans Hospital, Lexington following and extended illness. He was
born October 31, 1896 in Scranton, Pa. to the late S.H. and Minnie
Musette Berlin Beers. He was a member of the Lutheran Reform Church and
the American Legion Post 117 Paintsville and served in the Armed Forces
in France during W.W.I. He was a former office clerk of the
Consolidated Coal Co. and postmaster of Van Lear. Survivors include his
widow, Mrs. Margaret D. beers; two daughters, Ann Musette Beers of
Annapolis, Md and Margaret June Beers of Paintsville; two brothers,
James Beers of Philadelphia, Pa.; Clarence Beers of Allenton, PA.; and
one sister, Mrs. Charles Ehrhardt of Newfoundland, Pa. Funeral services
were held April 4, 1:30 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral home with the
Rev. James Wallace officiating. Interment was held in the Ridgelawn
Cemetery, Huntington, W.Va. under the direction of the Jones-Preston
Funeral Home. Serving as pall bearers were Edgar Stapleton, John
Spears, Charles Wills, Pat McCoart, Henry Stapleton, Howard Sparks,

BLAIR, Lydia (Burke)
1874-1966
Lydia Blair, age 91, died Sunday April 10, 9:30 a.m. at her home in
Hager Hill (Middle Fork) following an extended illness. Born in
Morgan County on July 13, 1874, she was the daughter of the late George
and Margaret Colvin Burke. She had been a resident of Hager Hill
for several years, and was a member of the Missionary Baptist
Church. She was the wife of the late John W. Blair, who died
August 13, 1949. Surviving sons and daughters include, Ray,
Paintsville, and Clay of hager Hill, Mrs. Ruth Conley, Ruth Blair and
Mrs. Ruie Kestner all of Hager Hill. She had six grandchildren
and three great grandchildren, and two half sisters; Mrs. Mima Salyers
and Mrs. Eva Burke both of West Van Lear. The funeral was held
today at 11:00 a.m. at the home with Reverend Claude Preston
officiating. Burial took place in the Hager Hill family cemetery
with the Jones-Preston Funeral Home in charge. PAINTSVILLE

Timmie Joe Blair, age 5, died Sunday, April 17, 3 p.m. at the
Paintsville Hospital. He was born in Paintsville, November 12 1960, the
son of Ray and Kathy Kesiner Blair, and had lived at Lick Fork.
Surviving brothers and sisters are: James Ray, Donnie, Donald,
Marsha, Delfa and Sandra all at home. The funeral was conducted
Wednesday, April 20, 2 p.m. at the Whitaker Free Will Baptist Church
with Bruce Spencer and Dewey Conley officiating. Burial was held in the

"Bowens Infant Rites are Held" Gregory Row Bowens, age four months died
Monday, April 18, 2:30 p.m. at the Paintsville Hospital. Born December
3, 1965, in Paintsville, he was the son of Jackie and Josephine
Sheppard Bowens. The funeral was held Thursday, April 2, 2 p.m. at the
home of the grandparents with Nim Sturgill officiating, Burial was held

BURTON, Lula (Adams)
1898-1966
Mrs. Lula Burton, age 67, died Monday morning, April 18, in a local
hospital after an extended illness. Born June 10, 1898 in Johnson
County, she was the daughter of the late Harman and Rosebell Adams. She
had been living at Auxier for several years now, until her death. Her
husband, the late Sam Burton, preceded her in death on May 1, 1963.
Surviving are a son, Leffie, Cleveland, Ohio; daughter, Mrs. James
Evans, Auxier; and two sisters, Mrs. Laura Cremens and Mrs. Lottie
Johnson. The funeral was conducted Wednesday, April 20, 1 p.m. at the
Auxier Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. John Conley officiating.
Burial took place in the Auxier- Ford Gap cemetery with Jones-Preston

Diana Lynn Curtis, thirteen months old, died Thursday, April 7, at a
local hospital after a weeks illness. Born February 26, 1965, in
Johnson County, she was the daughter of Billy Joe and Denetta Music
Curtis, Red Brush. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Curtis and the maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Clyde
Music. The funeral was held Saturday April 9, 11:00a.m. at the
Red Bush Enterprise Baptist Church with Willard Bailey
officiating. Burial under direction of the Jones-Funeral Home

FAIRCHILD, Laura (Hitchcock)
1881-1966
Mrs. Laura Fairchild, age 84, died Monday, April 25, 3:15 a.m., at the
Paintsville Hospital after a brief illness. Born December 12, 1881, in
Johnson County, she was the daughter of Milt and Celia Rice Hitchcock.
She had lived at Staffordsville for the past eleven years and was a
member of the Free Will Baptist Church. Her husband, Ed Fairchild,
preceded her in death on June 16, 1964. Survivors include a son, Crate,
Staffordsville; six daughters, Tavie and Mrs. Ethel Conley, city; Mrs.
Bertha Selvage and Mrs. Myrtle Taylor, Staffordsville; Mrs. Faye
Porter, Monroeville, Indiana; and Mrs. Arizona Ward, Fort Wayne,
Indiana; 34 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and a brother,
Walter Hitchcock, Ashland. The funeral was held Wednesday, April 27, 2
p.m., at the Rockhouse Free Will Baptist Church, with Rev. Richard
Williams and John F. Ratliff officiating. Burial took place at the

Mrs. Judy Green, age 88, died Wednesday, April 13, 1 p.m. at the Golden
Years Rest Home, Lackey, after an extended illness. Born March 8, 1878,
the daughter of the late James and Rebecca Sargent Liming, in Lawrence
County, she lived at Flat Gap and was a member of the United Baptist
Church. She was married to the late Enoch “Dock” Green who preceded her
in death June 25, 1958. Surviving sons include James, Tulsa, Oklahoma;
Ottis, Burton, Kansas; one daughter, Mrs. Virgil Lemaster, Flat Gap;
and one broth, Jarret Liming, Hannah. The funeral was held Sunday,
April 17, 1 p.m. at the home of her daughter with Lonza Reed, J.T.
Bailey, Elza Banks, and Arnold Reed officiating. Burial took
place in the Flat Gap family cemetery under direction of the

1931-1966
Mollie Hensley, age 34, died Friday, April 15, 5:30 p.m. at a local
hospital after several months of illness. Born in Johnson County on May
25, 1931, she was the daughter of Willie and Woonia Phipps Hensley. She
had previously lived in Paintsville but for the past twelve years had
made her home in Ind., working as a waitress. Surviving brothers
include Fed, Ed and William, all of Paintsville and sisters Mrs. Sarah
Mathis, Mrs. Mary Shepherd, and Mrs. Lyimen Daniel all of Paintsville.
The funeral was conducted Sunday, April 14 2 p.m. at the Pentecostal
Church, Paintsville, with Cline Salyer officiating. Burial was
held at Buffalo in the Penix Cemetery with the Paintsville Funeral Home

MCCLOUD, Earl
1966
Earl McCloud. 64, a former resident of Paintsville, died Wednesday
night of a heart attack at the home of his daughter, Mrs. MCKinley
Borders, Jr., in Toledo, Ohio. he was the son of the late Manford and
Mary McFadden McCloud. He is survived by his wife, Mattie Conley
McCloud, one son, Ernest McCloud Columbus, Ohio; one daughter Mrs.
McKinley Borders, Jr., four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Son Fairchild and Mrs. Fannie
Jackson, Paintsville, Mrs. Ben Salyers, Barnetts Creek; and one brother
Richard McCloud, Paintsville. Funeral services we conducted at 11:00
a.m. Saturday at the Boyer-Van Wormer Funeral Home in Toledo. Burial

Rebecca Ann Meek, two days old died Sunday April 17, 3 p.m. at the
Paintsville Hospital. She was born April 15, and was the daughter of
Londis and Rebecca Sue Slone Meek. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and
Mrs. Leroy Slone, Thealka, and the paternal grandmother is Mrs. Mary
Meek, River. Graveside rites were held Sunday, April 17, 2:30 p.m. at
the family cemetery, River, under the direction of the Preston Funeral

MOLLETT, James R.
1941-1966
Sgt. James R. Mollett, from Whitehouse, was reported killed in Vietnam
Friday, April 29. The 24 year old Meade Memorial graduate had been in
the service for seven years, and had been in Vietnam since last summer.
He was the son of Russell and Emma Cox Mollett, both deceased. Sgt.
Mollett is survived by his wife, Fredia, of Colorado Springs, Colorado
and two sons, Terry and Maxie. Also surviving are six brothers, Estill
serving in Iceland; Kenneth and Millard, at Whitehouse; Elmer and
Charley at River; and Roy living in Cincinnati. The body is to be
returned to the Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville. The Paintsville

Knox Honor Guard directed funeral services Monday May 9 for Sergeant
James R. Mollette, who was killed in Viet Nam Friday, April 29. The
full military service was held at the home of Jack Mollette, a brother
of the deceased at Hammond Creek with Chaplain Huey A. Bridgeman
officiating. Burial followed in the Mollette Cemetery at Whitehouse
cemetery under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home. Sergeant
Mollette was born September 10, 1941 at Whitehouse the son of Russell
and Emma Cox Mollette. He was married to Freda Mollette in Munich,
Germany on March 22, 1962. Survivors in addition to the parents and
wife are two children, Terry and Max Mollette both at home. Also
surviving are six other brothers, Estill in service in Iceland, Kenneth
Russell and Millard of Whitehouse, Elmer and Charley of River and Ray
Thomas of Cincinnati, Ohio. The

1926-1966
Leon Mollette, age 39, died Tuesday, April 12 at Lowmansville after an
illness of several years. Born at Boons Camp on October 2, 1926, he was
the son of Fred and the late Alma Wells Mollette. He was a resident of
Booms Camp for most of his life. His grandmother, Mrs. Emma Mollette,
with whom he made his home preceded him in death in 1953. Surviving is
his father Fred, Van Lear; one brother Donald Ray, Lexington; one
sister, Barbara Lorey, San Diego, California; two step brothers Burns
Mollette, David and Bobbie Mollette, Dayton, Ohio. He was the nephew of
Lizzie Colvin, THealka; Stella Fletcher, Inez; Burns O and John B.
Mollette, Meally; Amanda Holbrook, Paintsville; and Mrs. E. Jay Preston
Williamsport. The funeral was held Thursday, April 14, 10 a.m. at the
Boons Camp Free Will Baptist Church with Rev Claude Preston and Rev Dan
Fraley officiating. Burial took place in the Mollette Cemetery with

POWERS, David 1966 David Powers, 81, died at his home in Van Lear,
Friday April 1, 11:00 a.m. He was born to the late Billy and
Sissy Collins Powers in Johnson County and was a resident of Van Lear
for several years. He made his occupation as a farmer.
Survivors including his widow, Jennielee Honeycutt Powers are: two
daughters, Mrs. Mary Belle Clifton of Van Lear and Mrs. Maggie Hatfield
of Jackson, Ohio; four sons, Elzie Powers of Auxier, James Powers of
Bayes Br., Ky., Arville Powers of Van Lear; and George Edward Powers of
East Point. Also surviving are 54 grandchildren; 145 great
grandchildren; and two brothers, Dan Powers, Dayton, Ohio and Kennell
Powers. Funeral services were held Monday, 10:30 a.m. at the home with
Rev. James Paul Music officiating, with burial in the Gov't. Removal

Gracie Preston, age 88, died Friday, April 22, 12:15 p.m. enroute to
the hospital after an illness of four and a half years. Born
March 10, 1878 at Ulysses, she was the daughter of Hyden and Mary
Borders Childers. She had been living in Princeton, West Virginia
for the past three years and was a member of the United Baptist
Church. The surviving son is Tommy Dalton, King Addition
(Paintsville) and daughter Mrs. Edris Hinkle, Princeton, Nine
grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren and three great, great
grandchildren survive her. Surviving brothers and sister are Mrs.
Merdia Davis, Frank and Harmon Childers, all of Richardson. The
funeral was conducted Sunday, April 24, 11 a.m. at the New Mount Zion
United Baptist Church, Richardson, with Arnie Murray, Glenn Arrowood,
and O. I. Williams officiating. Burial was held in the Childers
cemetery at Richardson under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lode Sublett, age 83, died Friday, April 29, 3:15 a.m. at the home
of her daughter, Fannie Allen in Allen, after a brief
illness. Born October 7, 1877, in Johnson County, she was the
daughter of Jasper and Manervah Hannah Webb. She had been living
at Allen for the past three years and was a member of the Methodist
Church. Her husband, the late Jay Sublett, Sr. preceded her in
death in 1905. Survivors include a son, Albin, Paintsville; a daughter,
Mrs. Ben Allen, one grandchild, and five great grandchildren. The
funeral was conducted Sunday, May 1, 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the
Paintsville Funeral Home with Richard Williams and Lowell Webb

LeGrand Williams, 84, of Pinehurst St. Wheelersburg, Scioto County Ohio
died Sunday Apr.3 1966 in Wheelersburg, at his home. A son of John L.
& Martha (Pelphrey) Williams, he was born Feb.4 1882 Johnson
County, Kentucky, he was a retired Detroit Steel Corp., Portsmouth
Division employee and a member of Wheelersburg Missionary Baptist
Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Juda Wright Williams; a son, Earl
J. Williams 1327 Lincoln St.; two daughters Mrs. Dessie Smith of South
Point and Mrs. Bessie Noble of Wheelersburg, Rt. 1; and a sister, Mrs.
Minnie McGuire of Wakefield. Funeral services are to be conducted at
10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wheelersburg Missionary Baptist Church with
Revs. Gerald Miller and Raymond Cole officiating. Burial is to be in

Myrtle Willoby, 53, died Sunday, April 10, 3:30 a.m. in the Lima, Ohio
Hospital after a long illness of 13 years. Born September 1, 1912
in Johnson County, she was the daughter of the late Garfield and Lizzie
Ward Meek. She was a member of the Catholic Church.
Survivors are one brother Eugene Meek, Oregon, Ohio and one sister Mrs.
Maxine Ofsowitz of Louisville. The funeral was held Tuesday,
April 12, 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Mountain Chapel with burial in
the Chestnut-Garfield Meek Cemetery under direction of the
