Services were held at Lexington on Friday for William C. Bryant, 55,
who died last Wednesday, after receiving an electrical shock at Dewey
Lake. Bryant, a well-known architect, designed the Paintsville-Johnson
County Library, Johnson Central High School, Porter Elementary and the
county’s new elementary school now under construction. He also had done
architectural design for the city school system, and was working on a
renovation plan for the city schools at the time of his death. He had a
houseboat at Terry Boat Dock, and was in the water at the stern of the
boat, working on the power unit, when he apparently received an
electrical charge. County school superintendent Orville Hamilton and
his brother, Doug, were aboard the boat and brought the architect out
of the water. Park rangers and dock personnel joined them in efforts at
resuscitation, but were unsuccessful. Bryant was taken to Highlands
Regional Medical Center, and was pronounced dead on arrival at 4:31

Bryant succumbed from the electrical charge or is it had stimulated a
heart attack. Paintsville Herald, Wednesday, May 4, 1977
