Henry Blair, 56, died Thursday, April 22, in Good Samaritan Hospital,
Lexington. Born August 8, 1925, in Johnson County, he was the son of
Taylor and Minirva Lewis Blair, and was a resident of Van Lear.
Surviving are his wife, Lois Lynn Blair, five sons, Roger, Rick,
Thomas, Tony and Gary, all of Van Lear; two daughters, Brenda Jones and
Tama Blair, Van Lear; two brothers, Bill Blair, Van Lear, and Norman
Blair, Wabash, IN; two sisters, Ailene Keppel and Peggy Fyffe, Wabash,
IN; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, April
26, in Jones-Preston Funeral Home chapel with Revs. Lowell Webb and
Harry Frisby officiating. Burial was in Highland Memorial Park at

BORDERS, Walter
1914-1982
Thealka resident Walter Borders, 68, died April 11 in Highlands
Regional Medical Center. He was born March 8, 1914 in Lawrence County,
the son of Forrest and Price Burton Borders. Surviving are two
daughters, Patty Wells, Thealka, and Peggy Sturgill, Wittensville, two
sisters, Mary Daniels, Thealka, and Miza Mollett, Paintsville, five
grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services will be held
today, Wednesday, April 14, at 1 p.m. in Jones-Preston Funeral Home
Chapel with Irvin Castle officiating. Burial will be in the family

BRANHAM, Frank
1906-1982
Frank Branham, 76, died Sunday, April 25, in Pikeville Methodist
Hospital after an extended illness. Born April 4, 1906, in Johnson
County, he was the son of Turner and Martha Engles Branham. He was a
resident of Sitka, a retired miner and a member of the United Baptist
Church and Paintsville Lodge 381 F & AM. Surviving are his wife,
Alice Green Branham, who he married December 23, 1926, at Stambaugh,
two sons, Edcel of Fairborn, OH, and Paul E. of Enon, OH; two sisters,
Virgie McCormick, Pedro, OH, and June Mollette, Johnson county, four
grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held
Tuesday, April 27, in Preston Funeral Home Chapel with Florida Lyons

Billie M. Brown, 53, died Sunday, April 4, in Kettering Hospital,
Dayton, OH. Mrs. Brown was a resident of Enon, OH, and a member of the
South Charleston Freewill Baptist Church. She was in born in
Paintsville, June 3, 1928, the daughter of Willie Gray and Lou Bertha
Kissinger VanHoose. Surviving are her husband, Charles Brown; five
daughters, Mrs. Janet Snell and Mrs. Robert Rodgers, Rome, GA; Mrs.
Terry Gladman, Mrs. Micky Russell and Mrs. Ken Kiskis, all of
Springfield, OH; three brothers, Marion Edward, Springfield, Jimmy Joe
and Harold, Tampa, FL; two sisters, Mrs. Vivian Estep, Springfield, and
Mrs. Elizabeth Estep, Tampa; 11 grandchildren and two great
grandchildren. Funeral services were held in South Charleston Freewill
Baptist Church with burial in Enon Cemetery. Ingling Williams Funeral

Mrs. Katie N. Castle, 85, died Friday, April 2, in Paintsville Hospital
after an extended illness. Born September 24, 1895, in Johnson County,
she was a resident of Sitka. Surviving are six sons, Clarence, New
Albany, IN, James, Christianburg, OH, Elmer and Noah, Mt. Gilead, OH,
Clifton, Edison, OH, and Clinton, Urbana, OH; a daughter Louella
Conrad, Montrose, MI; 27 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 5, in Old Hood United Baptist
Church with Florida Lyons and Burnso Wheeler officiating. Burial was in
Marvin Sparks Cemetery, Blaine, with Preston Funeral Home in charge of

Rhoda Cochran, 89, died April 2 at her Flat Gap home after an extended
illness. Mrs. Cochran was born January 5, 1893 in Johnson County, a
daughter of J. D. and Louise Meade Cochran. She had been a member of
Cold Springs United Baptist Church for 72 years. Surviving are two
sons, Ted Stapleton, Flat Gap, and Poe Stapleton, Barnetts Creek; a
daughter, Christine Williams, Flat Gap; two brothers, Thurman Cochran,
Oil Springs, and Wince Cochran, Wittensville; two sisters, Martha
Bayes, Flat Gap, and Mary Williams, Dayton, KY; ten grandchildren and
seven great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, April 5,
in Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel with Elders B. C. Ferguson, Lonza
Reed, J. T. Bailey, Eual McKenzie and James D. Spradlin officiating.

Ethel Collins, 70, died April 21, in Highlands Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Collins was born February 11, 1912, in Johnson County, the son of
Charlie and Tealie Boyd McKenzie. She was a resident of Auxier, a
former nurse at Paintsville Hospital and a member of the Freewill
Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Willard Collins, a son,
Elvin Estep, Russell, KY; four daughters, Linda Sue Goble, Lebanon
Junction, KY, Marty Ward, Van Lear, Sharon Hale, Auxier, and Judy Ann
Laboy-Lopex, Ft. Polk, LA; three sisters, Minnie Daniels, Paintsville,
Sola Burchett, East Point, and Helen Delong, Van Lear and ten
grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 24, in
Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Tommy Reynolds and Douglas
Burkett officiating. Burial was in the family cemetery at Auxier.

DANIELS, Arthur
1909-1982
Services were held last Wednesday, April 28, for Arthur Daniels, 73, of
Oil Springs. Mr. Daniels was born in Magoffin County, in February 1909,
the son of Henry and Ida Williams Daniels. Survivors include his wife,
Faye Branham Daniels, two sons, Matthew Daniels of Stambaugh an Mark
Daniels of Oil Springs, and a step son, Bob Litteral of Oil Springs;
three daughters, Ruth Castle of Nippa, Phyllis Castle of Volga and Alka
Crace of Falcon, and a step daughter, Helen Rice of Oil Springs. Also
surviving are six brothers and sisters, including William Daniels of
Ashland, Arlie Daniels of Columbus, Henry Daniels of Lucasville,
Elizabeth May of Byington, OH, Bonnie Mitchell of Clarksville, OH and
Billie Sanford of Chillicothe, OH. Thirty-two grandchildren, 23 great
grandchildren and four step grandchildren survive. William Paul Perkins
and Will Conley officiated at services in the chapel of Jones-Preston
Funeral Home. Burial was in the Burke Cemetery at Mine Fork.

Landon Dutton, 70, died Saturday, April 10, at his River home after an
extended illness. Born July 2, 1911, in Johnson County, he was the son
of John and Nelvie Pack Dutton and was a retired miner. Surviving are
his wife, Rosie Williamson Dutton, who he married October 3, 1969; a
son, James Landon Dutton, Smith River, CA; two daughters, Louise
Colvin, River, and Nelva Jean Skaggs, Denver, five brothers, John Jr.,
River, Elmer and Clifford, Springfield, OH, Gene, Wabash, IN, and
George, Smith River, CA; three sisters, Thelma Parker and Gracie
parker, Pikeville and Eula Blevins, Springfield. Funeral services were
held Monday, April 12, in Preston Funeral Home Chapel with John Frank
Ratliff officiating. Burial was in Dennie Pigg Cemetery at Boons Camp.

FRANKLIN, Gaylan
1895-1982
Retired miner Gaylan Franklin, 86, of Hager Hill, died Monday, April
26, at his residence. Born in Johnson County in August 1895, he was the
son of John and Polly Isaac Franklin. His wife, Bertha, preceded in
death in January 1972. A daughter, Mary Stapleton, lives at Hager Hill,
and a sister, Julia Morgan, lives in Ohio. Seven grandchildren and 17
great grandchildren survive. Bill Meadows and Scott Castle officiated
at services in the chapel of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home on April
29. Burial was in the family cemetery at Hager Hill. Paintsville

GAMBER, Robert

Robert E. Gamber, 68, died April 28 in Palm Beach and Martin County
Medical Center, Jupiter, FL. Mr. Gamber was born April 12, 1914, in
Ionia, MI, and was a resident of Hobe Sound, FL. He was a retired chief
engineer for Marine Engineering Association, a member of the Elks and
VFW and served with the U. S. Navy and the Merchant Marine Corp.
Surviving are his parents, Perry and Helen Weeks Gamber of Stuart, FL;
his wife, Mollie Mae Jenkins Gamber; a son, Robert T. Gamber, Denver,
CO; a daughter Joan C. Davis, New Freedom, PA; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 1, in Fishtrap United Baptist
Church, Staffordsville, with Elders Lonza Reed, Wayne Blair and Benny
Salyers officiating. Burial was in Johnson County Memorial Cemetery,
Staffordsville, with Paintsville Funeral Home in charge of

Aaron Michael Hitchcock, seven weeks old, died Sunday, April 4, in
Paintsville Hospital. Surviving are his parents, Tommy Sparks and
Jennifer Hitchcock; a sister, Amy Michelle Hitchcock, and his maternal
grandmother, Catherine Hitchcock, Paintsville. Funeral services were
held Tuesday, April 6, in Jones-Preston Funeral Home chapel with Jerry
Scott officiating. Burial was in the family cemetery at Van Lear.

Infant William Paul McKenzie succumbed April 23, shortly after birth in
Oklahoma City, OK. He was the son of William and Sue McKenzie. Paternal
grandparents are Paul and Kay McKenzie and maternal grandparents are
Don and Dolly McKenzie. Beulah McKenzie is the paternal great
grandmother. Graveside rites were held at the McKenzie Cemetery, Flat
Gap, on April 28, under the direction of the Jones-Preston Funeral

John Frank (Gummy) Montgomery, 69, died April 16, in Paintsville
Hospital. Born March 19, 1912, in Morgan County, he was the son of the
late Jim and Lizzie Keaton Montgomery. Mr. Montgomery was a resident of
Paintsville, was self-employed in construction, and was a member of
Paintsville Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star. Surviving are his
wife, Deana Jayne Montgomery, two step sons, Everett Bradley, Van Lear,
and Dr. William Bradley, Maysville, six step daughters, Edith Onstott,
Indiana, Gladys Oppenheimer, Columbus, OH, Mary Schell, Michigan,
Francis hart and Numia Pickle, Paintsville and Janet Butler, Hawaii,
two brothers, Harold Montgomery, West Van Lear, and Henry Montgomery,
Flat Gap; a sister, Audrey Holbrook, Paintsville, several
grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 18, in Third Street Freewill
Baptist Church with John Frank Ratliff, Norman Roberts, and Scott
Castle officiating. Burial was in Holbrook Cemetery, Paintsville, with
Jones-Preston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Both Paintsville
Masonic Lodge 381 F&AM and Paintsville Order of Eastern Star 320
conducted services at the funeral home. Active pallbearers were Andy
Adams, Eddie Cornett, Carl Will, Gary Fitch, Jeff Owens, Doug Murphy,
Bob Conley and Wess Gilkey. Honorary pallbearers were I. I. Arrowood,
Bill Dyer, James Cox, James Coleman, Gene Coleman and Gene Roberts.

Orville Picklesimer, 69, a resident of Franklin Furnace, OH, formerly
of Johnson County, died Tuesday, April 20. He was the son of the late
Simon and Sarah Rice Picklesimer. Surviving are his wife, Julia Dills
Picklesimer, five son, two daughters, and one sister. Funeral services
were conducted Friday, April 23, with burial following in Floral Hills

Gaylord Walters, 69, died April 20, in Columbus, OH. Born August 25,
1912, in Johnson County, he was a son of the late Taulbee Walters and
Laura Spriggs Walters. He was a retired miner and electrician.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Duty Walters, six children, Gary Dale,
Kenneth Walters, Flo Mae Clark, Odell Walters, Diane Walters, and David
Walters, all of Columbus, and 18 grandchildren. Also five brothers and
four sisters, Wince Walters, Offutt, Taulbee Walters, Jr., John L.
Walters, and Vern Walters, Williamsport, Gene Walters, East Point, Mrs.

Mrs. Jewel C. Williams, 55, died April 27 in Grandview Hospital,
Fairborn, OH, after an extended illness. Born April 18, 1927, in Morgan
County, she was the daughter of Rufus and Melissa Hurley Shaver. Mrs.
Williams was a resident of Huber Heights, OH, and a member of the
United Baptist Church. Surviving are her mother, her husband, James
Williams, a son, Walter Williams, Medway, OH; a daughter, Brenda S.
DeMott, Kokomo, IN; six brothers, Carl, Jim, Harold, Dennis and Ken
Shaver, Fairborn, and Charles Shaver, Dayton, OH; four sisters, Stella
Jenks, Enon, OH, Josephine Mills, Cleveland, OH, Olene Dinnen,
Springfield, OH, and Ethel Tatut, Fairborn, and three grandchildren.
