Edgar Auxier, 69, died Saturday, April 9, in Highlands Regional Medical
Center. Mr. Auxier was born May 11, 1918 in Johnson County,the son of
Tobe and Belle Preston Auxier. He was a retired miner. Surviving
are his wife, Opal Taylor Auxier; 3 sons, Leroy, James and Kenneth, all
of East Point; 2 daughters, Bonnie Spradlin and Sherry Bolen, both of
East Point; 1 sister, Lottie Delong of Hager Hill and 11 grandchildren
and 2 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, April 11,
in East Point Church of Christ with Dave Flanery officiating.
Burial was in family cemetery at East Point with Jones-Preston Funeral

BAILEY, Paul

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 19, for Paul W. Bailey, 58.
Mr. Bailey was born July 27, 1929 in Johnson County, the son of Wallace
and Erie Ferguson Bailey. He was the plant supervisor at Foothills
Telephone Company for 32 years and was a member of Flat Gap Baptist
Church. Surviving are his mother, his wife, Gay Stapleton Bailey; one
daughter, Mrs. Ben "Paulinda" Cox of Staffordsville; two sisters, Della
Jean Ferguson and Anna Lee Bailey, both of Keaton and two
grandchildren. Officiating ar services in Flat Gap Baptist Church were
Harold Salyers and Bill Roberts. Burial was in Highland Memorial Park
at Staffordsville, with Jones-Preston Funeral Home in charge of

Elder Elzie Banks, 88, died Friday, April 22 at his Meally home. Mr.
Banks was born April 17, 1900 in Floyd County, the son of Robert and
Susan Porter Banks. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the
United Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Alice Hannah Banks; 4
sons, Elzie Loren of Morehead, Gerald Vernon of Elgin, Ill, Carl Ray of
Cincinnati, OH, and Robert H. of Westminister, MD; 3 daughters, Velma
Arrowood of Meally, Violet Givens of Cedar Park, TX, and Lou Banks
Wallen of Birmingham, Ala; one half brother, George banks of Van Lear;
2 half sisters, Dixie Blevins of Delaware, OH and Geneva Meek of
Flatwoods; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and 3 great-great
grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, April 24 in Buffalo
United Baptist Church with Elders Flem Arrowood, Ivan Butcher, and
Claude Mollett officiating. Burial was in Banks Family Cemetery at

BAYES, Edna (Collins)
1909-1988
Edna Bayes, 78, died Tuesday, April 19, at UK Medical Center,
Lexington. Mrs. Bayes was born August 18, 1909 in Johnson County,
the daughter of W. L. "Bill" and Sarah Baldridge Collins. She was a
member of the United Baptist Church. Her husband, Sam J. Bayes,
died in December 1980. Surviving are three sons, Sherman of Oil
Springs, and Charles and Carl both of Forest, OH; one daughter Thelma
Lester of Denver; and five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 22, in Long Fork United
Baptist Church at Riceville, with Elders B. C. Ferguson and Press
Hughes officiating. Burial was in Lester Cemetery at Denver with

Paintsville resident, Everett F. Bradley, 78, died April 27, in Paul B.
Hall Regional Medical Center. Mr. Bradley was born November 11, 1909,
the son of Lewis M. Bradley and Almeda Shepard Bradley. He was a
conductor of the C & O Railway Company. He was a past master of
Masonic Lodge No. 381 F & AM, Ambassador Shriner with El Hasa
Temple, treasurer of Hillbillies Clan #1, El Has Clown Unit, treasurer
of Big Sandy Shrine Club, treasurer of Odd Fellows Lodge #288, former
city police judge of Olive Hill and a Kentucky Colonel. Surviving are
his wife, Jessie Vanover Bradley; one son, Everett E. Bradley, of
Houston, TX, three daughters, Carol Crawford, of Louisville, Priscilla
Brewer of Pikeville, and MaDonna Calhoun, of Thelma; five sisters,
Edith Ann Onstatt of Rochester, IN, Frances B. Hart, and Numia Pickle,
of Paintsville, Mary Schell of Flint, MI, and Gladys Oppenheimer, of
Worthington, OH; and 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 30, in Jones-Preston Funeral
Home Chapel with Dick VanHoose and John P. Salyer officiating. Burial
was in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville. Honorary pallbearers

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 24 for Wetzel Butcher, 85. Mr.
Butcher was born Jan 26, 1903 in Johnson County, the son of Thomas F.
and Minnie Hannah Butcher. He was a retired miner. Surviving are his
step mother, Pearl Butcher, of Van Lear; one sister, Daisy Beddow, of
Westerville, OH; four half sisters, Wanda Prater, and Dorothy Burke,
both of Wabash, IN, Jo Ann Music, of LaFountaine, IN and Thelma Fay
Hash, of Chicago, IL; four half brothers, Thomas Butcher and Herschel

Mary E. Castle, 49, died Sunday, April 9, in Paul B. Hall Regional
Medical Center. Mrs. Castle was born June 1, 1938 in Johnson County,
the daughter of Mike and Amanda Mollette Staniford. She was a member of
Kerz Enterprise Baptist church. Surviving are her parents; her husband,
Charlie B. Castle; one son, James Castle of Paintsville; one daughter,
Barbara Picklesimer of Oil Springs; three brothers, Mike, Jr.
Staniford, of Staffordsville, Ronnie Staniford of Thelma and Tom
Staniford of Columbia, TN, three sisters, Carolyn Meade of Columbus,
OH, Helen Music of Nippa, and Loraine Lyons of Staffordsville; four
grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 13, in Kerz
Enterprise Baptist church with Lindsey Meade, Gilbert Meade and John
Frank Meade officiating. Burial was in the family cemetery at River,

Virginia Childers, 73, died Thursday, April 7, in Humana Hospital,
Louisa. Mrs. Childers was born in Floyd County, the daughter of Bill
Ford and Norma Preston Ford. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist
Church. Her husband, Richard Childers, preceded her in death in July
1982. Surviving are a son Archer F. Childers of Louisa; one
daughter, Sharon Thomas of Louisa; two brothers, Bobby Ford and Jackie
Ford of Wabash, Ind.; six grandchildren and l great grandchild. Funeral
services were held Saturday, April 9, in Auxier Freewill Baptist
Church, with Doug Burkett and Homer Burchett officiating.

Michael Duane Collins, 38, died Wednesday, April 27, in Martin County.
Mr. Collins was born August 17, 1949 in Johnson County, the son of
Myrtle Slone and the step son of Roy Slone. He was the son in law of
Douglas and Juanita Stapleton of Fuget. He was employed by Music
Trucking and a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. Surviving are his
parents; his wife, Dona Stapleton Collins; one son, Zachary Michael
Collins, at home; one daughter, Lisa Machele Collins, at home; five
sisters, Judy Parrott of FL, Sandra Reynolds and Lois Scurlock, both of
Tutor Key, Brenda Jones of Thelma, and Joyce Music of Denver. Funeral
services were held Sunday, May 1 in Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel

CORNETT, Phil

Phil Cornett, 66, of East Point, died Monday, April 25. Mr. Cornett was
born April 20, 1922, the son of Dave and Eda Jane Goble Cornett. He was
a retired miner and a member of the East Point Church of Christ.
Surviving are his wife, Eula Webb Cornett, four sons, Phil David
Cornett, of Panama City, Panama, Billy Cornett and Bobby Keith Cornett,
both of East Point, and Stephen Cornett of Staffordsville; four
daughters, Charolet Evans of Danville, Mary Fairchild of East Point,
Betty Dotson of Prestonsburg, and Linda Combs of Garrett; one brother,
Otto Cornett, of Prestonsburg; three sisters, Emma Music of Meally,
Maggie Wright, and Lula Holbrook of Prestonsburg; and 15 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 28, at 2:30 p.m. at
Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Dave Flannery
officiating. Burial was in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.

Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, April 13, for Alberta
Daniels, 64. Mrs. Daniels was born Nov 26, 1923 in Johnson County, the
daughter of Port and Stella Dutton Penix. She was a member of the
United Baptist Church. Her husband, Elbert Daniels, preceded her in
death in Jan 1982. Surviving are her mother, four daughters, Sara
Miracle, Darlene Baldridge, and Nola Hamilton, all of Wabash, IN, and
Stella Walters, of Boonscamp; four brothers, Jim Jack Penix of
Williamsport, Port Penix, Jr., of Wabash, Joe Penix, of Blaine, and

Rhinee Delzer, 84, died April 4, in Mt. Manor Nursing Home, Pikeville.
Mr. Delzer was born September 10, 1903 in North Dakota, the son of Adam
and Katherine Mindt Delzer. He was a barber and member of the Methodist
Church. His wife, Madeline LeVecesque Delzer preceded him in death.
Surviving are two sons, Frank, of Paintsville and Carroll, of Los
Angeles, Ca, one daughter, Jeanne Cervantez of Sydney, Australia; one
brother, Lena Ochsner, of Mobridge, SD and 12 grandchildren and two
great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 9 in
Paintsville funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Dickerson officiating .

his wife, Olive Lyons Eckles; one son, Ross Spears, of Paintsville and

(Junior) Fraley; one daughter, Judy Wheeler of Barnetts Creek and one

River View Manor Nursing Home. Mrs. Ford was born Mar 27, 1903, the
daughter of Elisha Burton and Renee Boggs. Her husband, Fred Ford
preceded her in death. Surviving are one daughter, Betty Bennett of
Payson, AZ; and one grandchild, two great grandchildren and two great

FORD, Francis "Frank"
1916-1988
Francis (Frank) Ford, 71, of Michigan, died Thursday, April 28, at
Burgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo, MI. Mr. Ford was born August
7, 1916 in Auxier. He retired in 1962 after 30 years of service with
the U. S. Navy. He was a member of the Wesleyan Church of Coldwater.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Bidwell Ford; two sons, Thomas of
Portage, MI and Henry of Hollywood, CA; three daughters, Mary Frances
Krier, of Norristown, PA, Lizabeth Brooks and Melinda Pifer, both of
Coldwater and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the
Wesleyan Church in Coldwater, with Rev. Vaughn Jensen officiating.
Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery in Colon, MI with Dutcher Funeral Home

Paintsville resident, Edna P. Hester, 71, died Thursday, April 21 at
her home. Mrs. Hester was born October 10, 1916 in Fort Screven, GA,
the daughter of Henry Speed and Argyle Blalock Pitman. She was a member
of the First United Methodist Church and an instructor at Big Sandy
CAPS. She was once employed as the director of the arts and crafts
department at the Carl C. Perkins Rehabilitation Center. Her husband,
John Robert Hester, preceded her in death in 1968. Surviving are one
daughter, Harriet Johnson, of Paintsville; one brother, W. B. Pitman,
of Charlotte, NC, one sister, Mrs. Jessie P. Melton, of Greenville, SC;
and one granddaughter, Jan Johnson. Funeral services were held
Saturday, April 23 in Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James

Hospital, Huntington, WV. Mr. Holbrook was born April 17, 1917 in
Breathitt County, the son of John Miles Holbrook and Phoebe Banks
Holbrook. Surviving are one son, Milton Holbrook; one daughter, Brenda
Holbrook; one sister, Alafair Murphy, of Winchester, and one niece,

Hospital, Huntington, WV. Mrs. Jones was born March 14, 1911 in Floyd
County, the daughter of W. P. and Menerva Boyd Robinette. Her husband,
Walker Jones, preceded her in death in November 1970. Surviving are one
son, Carl Jones, of Shoals, WV, one daughter, Doris McClellan of
Huntington; two brothers, Pervis Robinette, of Harold and Rowe
Robinette, of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Osa Martin, of Paintsville and

Prater Mollett; one son, Hobert Mollett of Weeksbury; one daughter,
Alice Hall of Ecorse, MI; one brother, William Mollett of Weeksbury;
one sister, Vernie Henson of Weeksbury; and eight grandchildren; 15
great grandchildren and eight step grandchildren. Funeral services were

was a retired miner. His wife, Dorothy Ealey Nelson, preceded him in
death in September 1970. Surviving are one daughter, Brenda Trimble, of

of Paintsville, Helen Fannin, of Crockett, and Vivian Kemper, of
Otisco, IN; one half sister, Elizabeth Salyer, of Parson, KS; and one
grandson, Henry Lubinski of Salyersville. Officiating at services in

Liddie Wright, 95, died Thursday, April 14, at her home. Mrs. Wright
was born November 12, 1892 in Johnson County, the daughter of James and
Susan Ferguson Fyffe. She was a member of Enterprise Baptist Church.
Her husband, Merdia Wright, preceded her in death in 1953. Surviving
are four sons, Luther, of Flat Gap, James B. and Murl H., both of
Reynoldsburg, OH and Dean of….. Burial was in the family cemetery at
