Sally Hazel Ferguson, 87, a Morgan County, formerly of Staffordsville, died Saturday in West Liberty Hospital. Mrs. Ferguson was born Dec. 20, 1903, in Morgan County, a daughter of the late Dockie and Stella Sherman Ison. She was of the United Baptist faith. Surviving are her husband, Gertie Ferguson; a son, Homer Ferguson of Grove City, Ohio; a daughter Norma Brown of Moon; two sisters, Gracie Skaggs and Lou Ethel Brown, both of Moon; six grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Paintsville Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home. Heavy equipments operator , Manuel B. Skaggs , 54, died Friday , January 25, 1991, at his Keaton resident. Mr. Skaggs was born May 12, 1936 in Lawrence County , the son of Norman and Golda Evans Skaggs. He was a member of the Enterprise Baptist Church. Surviving are his father ; his wife , Wanda Mason Skaggs, one son, Eric Norman Skaggs, of Keaton one daughter, Connie Skaggs, of Lexington; his stepmother , Elsie Keaton Skaggs , of Flat Gap; one brother , Maxwell Skaggs, of Keaton ; three half brothers, Paul E. Keaton, of Red Bush , Roger Keaton, of Martha ,a nd Jimmy Keaton , of Flat Gap ; one sister, Frances  Webb, of Red Bush ; and one half sister , Mary Rowland , of Flat Gap . Funeral services were held Sunday , January 27, 1991 in Point Pleasant Enterprise Baptist Church at Flat Gap, with Revs. Ellis Hamilton , Paul E. Keaton and Paul Preston officiating . Preston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Flora Mae Cantrell, 90. Mrs. Cantrell was born February 19,1901 in Johnson County, the daughter of Scott and  Minnie Salyers Estep . She was a member of the Bethel United Baptist Church. She was Preceded in death by her husband, James H. Cantrell in 1969. Surviving are four sons, Emery Cantrell, of Red Bush, Millard Cantrell of  Centersville Ohio, Arless Cantrell, of Pataskala Ohio, and Eulas Cantrell of  Louisiana; and two daughters, Gay Perry, of Pickerington Ohio, and Mary Fyffe, of Columbus Ohio. Funeral services were held Monday, February 25, in Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with  Eual McKenzie officiating. Burial was in Cantrell Cemetery at Fuget. Note: According to the Kentucky Death Index, Flora Cantrell died on Feb. 22, 1991 in  Breathitt Co., KY.

NANCY ANN DAVIS, 62, 9506 Brimton Drive, Orlando, died Thursday. Born in Paintsville, Ky., she moved to Orlando from Miami in 1984. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Baptist Faith. Survivors: husband, Herbert; son, Keith R., Orlando; brothers, John Phipps, Orlando, Luster Phipps, Jackson, Ohio; sisters, Mary Conley, Russell, Ky., Martha Mast, Cincinnati, Flora Dozier, Orlando. Donnie McKenzie Salyers, 82, died Saturday, February 8 in Marysville, Ohio. Mrs. Salyers was born October 21, 1909 in Johnson County, the daughter of Toby and Spicy Tackett McKenzie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Logan Salyers. Surviving are four sons, Bobbie Lemaster and James and Corvin Salyers, all of Sitka, and Jessie Salyers of Columbus, Ohio; six daughters, Lavonjalene Wilcox of Sitka, Martha Estep and Bonnie Estep, both of Marysville, Irene Crabtree and Minnie Dingledine, both of Milford Center, Ohio, and Hester Music of Mechanicsburg, Ohio; one brother, Frances McKenzie of Sitka; one sister, Alka Murray of Sitka; and 36 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Evell E. Williams, age 73, of Patchen Rd., Oregon, Ohio, died Friday Feb.22 1991 at home. He was employed as a welder for Toledo Fabricating (now known as the (TIFCO), 10 years, retiring in 1973, prior to this he was a welder for the former Superior Casket Company in Toledo. Survived by his wife, Anna R.(Colvin) Williams; daughters, Mrs. Reva Williams, Mrs. Phyllis Eitniear, Mrs. Oraleen Strickland, Mrs. Christine Hurst, Mrs. Mary Cousino, and Mrs. Linda Terry; son Wendell A. Williams, Edgel R. and Alberta. Also survived by 28 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; brother, Denver Williams; sisters; Mrs Olive Bailey, Mrs. Oreda Lyons, Mrs. Loretta Porathy, Mrs. Florine Keller and Mrs. Clotene Ruff. Survivingare one son, Jack Patrick of Ft. Mitchell; one daughter, Flora Montgomery of Winchester; and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Patsy Collins Wells, 55, of Van Lear died Friday, March 29, 1991, at Paul B. Hall Medical Center at Paintsville following an extended illness. A daughter of Alice Richmond and the late Ashley Collins, she was born in Johnson County, January 15, 1936. She was a receptionist for Highlands Regional Medical Center. Survivors in addition to her mother include her husband, Richard Wells; a son, Richard Wells of Paintsville, and a daughter, Pamela Wells of Van Lear. Funeral services were held noon, Monday, April 1, at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry Scott officiating. Burial followed in Highland Memorial Park.

Taylor Daniels, age 75, a longtime Hillard resident. Died Friday April 26,1991. Preceded in death by parents, Rev. Willie Daniels and Julia Pack, son Norman , brothers Thomas and John Elmo Daniels. Sisters Gypsy Fitch and Sara Pack. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW-II. Member of Westgate Lodge F&AM, North-West Shrine Club and the Hillard Church of Christ. Retired from the Hillard City Schools after 28 years of service. Survived by wife Jewell of 51 years : daughter and son-in-law carol and Ken Cordial: sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Diane Daniels of Hillards and Tom and Cathy Daniels also of Hillards, Ohio: grandchildern Scott,Danielle, Cindy, Darren, Susan and Billy, sister Gertrude Hayes of Charley Ky. Brother Gerald Caudill of Ashland, Ky. Several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Friends may call from 7-9 pm on Saturday and from 2-4 and 7-9 on sunday at the Tidd Funeral Home 5265 Norwich Street, Hillard, Ohio, where funeral service will be held at 10-am on Monday with Bro.Danny Vanscoy officiating. Interment will be at the Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Hillard. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Hillard Church of Christ or the heart association. She was a member of the Rockhouse Freewill Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Grady Arms; one son, Ricky Arms of Marysville, Ohio; and two grandchildren. Vernal Spradlin 67, of Springfield, died Saturday, May 18, 1991, in Mercy Medical Center and was a Springfield area resident for the past 20 years. He was a retired employee of Universal Welding in Springfield and was a member of the Worldwide Church of God, Dayton. Survivors include his wife, Violet; four daughters, Mrs. Annetta Scaff of Medway, Mrs. Janet McRoberts of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, Mrs. Judith Crist of New Carlisle, and Mrs. Marilee Multhup of Springfield; 13 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; four sisters. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. Services will be held on Tuesday May 21, 1991, at 1 p.m. in the Trostel, Chapman and Christmas Funeral Home, New Carlisle, with Ray Meyer officiating. Burial in Myers Cemetery, North Hampton. Williamsport resident, Mary Frances Ward Adams, 40, died Saturday, June 29. Mrs. Adams was born April 14, 1951 in Johnson County, the daughter of Greenville and Edna Perky Ward. She was a teacher's aide at Meade Memorial. Surviving are her mother; two sons, Michael and Matthew Adams, both of Williamsport; two brother, Phillip Sammons of Danville and Ron Ward of Boons Camp; two sisters, Betty Price of Warsaw, Indiana and Wanda Short of Indianapolis, Indiana; and one granddaughter. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 2, in Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with L.M. Scott officiating. Burial was in Lakeview Memorial at Staffordsville. She was a member of the free will baptist church, she is survived by 4 sons Vencil Castle of River, Ky, Ronnie, Lonnie and Bernard Castle Jr., all of Nippa,Ky. She is also survived by 5 sisters, Nola Mae Fitch of Paintsville, Ky, Clora Copas, Urbana, Ohio, Betty Flowers, Toledo Ohio, Elleda Stambough, and Jean Hayes of River, Ky. The funeral was held at the chapel of Jones Preston Funeral Home with ministers Delbert Music and Willie Hayes. Mr. McKenzie was born January 19, 1912, in Johnson County, the son of Dennie and Virgie Fitch McKenzie.  He was a retired carpenter foreman from C&O Railroad, a member of the Freewill Baptist Church and Paintsville Masonic Lodge 381 F&AM and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by two wives, Alka Williams McKenzie in 1984, and Ivel Conley McKenzie in 1989. Surviving are his stepmother, Mrs. Beechie McKenzie of Staffordsville; one son, Roger McKenzie of West Liberty, Roger McKenzie of West Liberty; two stepsons, Richard Daniel of Tampa, Florida, and Harry Daniel of Newport News, Virginia; one daughter, Phyllis Ann Conley of Troy, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Marilyn Sue Chesney of Escondido, California; three brothers, Lonnie B. She was the adoptive daughter of Alfonao and Lenora Wright. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Beverley. He was a painting contractor and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Central Christian Church and Paintsville Lodge 381, F&AM. He was a member of the Tampa Consistory, Scottish Rite and Egypt Shrine Temple. He was a member of Harmony Chapter 140, Order of Eastern Star, Lebanon Shrine No. 6 and Disabled American Veterans. Mary M. Culwell, age 87, of 8875 State Route 776, Jackson, died Wednesday July 3 at the home of her daughter Molly Foster, with whom she resided for the past four years. Daughter of the late Wally and Jane Murray Stumbo she was born Feb. 11,1904 in Johnson County Ky. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Charlie Culwell, two sons Sandy Culwell and William Culwell, two daughters Polly Frazier and Alice Irvine, and two grandchildren. Survivors include seven daughters, Lora Adams and Molly Foster both of Jackson, Elizabeth Brown of Kentucky, Barbara Cook of Coalton, Madge Lavelle of Texas, Wanda Smith of Beaver and Gladys Wyatt of Wellston, 30 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. He was a general construction worker and member of the East Point Church of Christ. Survivng are four daughters, Carol Shepard, Marion Bowan, Charlotte Ferrell and Bertrice Baxley, all of Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, William Greer of Paintsville and Guy Greer of Lexington; and two sisters, Evelyn Flanery, of Allen and Madge Rutledge of Lexington. Childers, age 75, of Reynoldsburg, Oh, died Thursday, August 1, 1991, at the Residence. She retired from Grant Hospital, Columbus. She was born November 5, 1916 in Paintsville, Kentucky to Elbert and Mary (Preston) Jennings. She was preceded in death by husband, Frank Childers and two children. Survived by children, Bonnie (Jessie) Etter, Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Betty L.  (Robert) Steel, Port Charlotte, Fla, Mary (Randall) DeBoard, Canal Winchester, Oh.  Jerry R. (Joannie) Childers, Port Charlotte, Fla, Frank Childers, New Rome, Oh and Ira Ray (Alma) Childers, Port Charlotte, Fla; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral 9 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 1991, Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingston Ave, where friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday.  Rev. Fred Preston officiating. Interment Glen Rest Cemetery. JENNINGS, Ira

Former Johnson County resident, Ira Jennings, 73, of Mechanicsburg, Ohio, died Friday, August 23 1991 at Wooster Community Hospital. Mr. Jennings was born in Paintsville in 1918, the son of Elbert and Mary Preston Jennings.  He retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation, was a World War II veteran, a member of Ebenezer Lodge No. 33 F&AM, was a 32nd degree mason of the Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, the Kentucky Colonels of the Al Koran Temple of Cleveland, Wooster Shrine Club, the VFW, American Legion and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Hill Jennings; two sons, Ira Jennings Jr. of Lodi, Ohio and Steve Hill of Wooster, Ohio; two brothers, James of Decatur, Alabama and Glenn of Jackson, Ohio; three sisters, Sylvia and Viney, both of Kentucky, and Mary Lou of California; and one grandson. Funeral services were held Monday, August 26 at Hile-Roberts Funeral Home, with rev. Eric Fairhurst officiating. Burial was in Sherwood Memorial Gardens.

Ira Jennings, 73, Wooster Ohio died Friday evening August 23, 1991, at Wooster Community Hospital, after a lingering illness. Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Hile-Roberts Funeral Home, Wooster, with the Rev. Eric Fairhurst officiating.  Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Sunday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. He was born May 16, 1918 in Paintsville, Kentucky to Elbert and Mary (Preston) Jennings and married Nancy Hill in 1958.  She survives. He was a World War II veteran and was employed by the Ohio Department of Transportation, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Ebenezer Lodge No. 33 F&AM, was a 32nd degree mason of the Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, the Kentucky Colonels of the Al Koran Temple of Cleveland, Wooster Shrine Club, the VFW, American Legion and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. Surviving in addition to his wife are, two sons, Ira Jennings, Jr. of Lodi and Steve Hill of Wooster; one grandson; two brothers, James of Decatur, Ala., and Glenn of Jackson; and three sisters, Sylvia and Vina, both of Kentucky, and Mary Lou of California. Two brothers and three sisters died previously.

Robert E. Price 45, Oak Terrace, Orange City, died Friday. Born in Paintsville, Ky., he moved to Orange City from Casselberry in 1986. He was a supervisor for United Telephone Co., Winter Park. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church. He was a member of Pioneers for United Telephone. Survivors: wife, Laurel; son, Cory Patrick, Orlando; daughter, Amy Lynn, Orlando; sisters, Rosie, Juanita Patrick, Mary B. Harmon, Betty Castle, all of Flatwoods, Ky., Julia Tabor, Sharon, S.C. Bertha L. Castle, 79, died Saturday, October 12 1991 in Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center, Paintsville, Johnson Co Ky. Mrs. Castle was born October 12, 1912 in Lawrence County, the daughter of Hosiah and Polly Ann Bowen VanHoose. She was a retired presser from Nu-Way Cleaners and a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Rev. Scott Castle; one son, Scott Castle Jr. of Sacramento, California; three daughters Mary Ward of Paintsville of Columbus, Ohio and Jennie Music of Columbus Ohio, and Ruby Snowden of Corning, Ohio; and three sister, Laura Belle Daniels of Columbus Ohio, and  Hazel Borders of  Jeromesville, Ohio and Dorothy Nanus of Woodridge, New Jersey. Funeral services were held Monday, October 14 in the Third Street Freewill Baptist Church, with Rev. Leondis Taylor officiating. Burial was in Church Cemetery at Staffordsville, with Paintsville Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Thurman Daniels, 73, of 233 Euclid Ave., Fairborn, (Ohio), died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 1991 in Hospice of Dayton after a lengthy illness.  He was born June 2, 1919, in Johnson County, Ky., the son of James and Belle Z. Castle Daniels. Mr. Daniels was a self-employed painter in the Fairborn area for more than 20 years and attended Calvary Enterprise Baptist Church.  He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include four daughters and three sons-in-law, Carolyn and Kenneth Poston, of Xenia; Becky and Talbert Turner, of Franklin, Ohio; Betty Elliott, of Georgetown, Ky., and Linda and Rennie Farley, of Richmond, Va.; five sons and four daughters-in- law, Kenneth and Barbara Daniels, of Highland, Calif.; James and Alice Daniel, Roanoke, Va.; Roy Lee and Irene Daniels, of Blue Creek, Ohio, Charles Ray and Becky Daniels, of Springfield, and Michael K. Daniels, of Fairborn; a sister, Bulah DeLong, of Martin, Ky.; a brother, Walter Daniels, of Springfield; 15 grandchildren, Jackie, Denise, Cheryl, Rodney, Robin, Rhonda, John, Gina, Gerald, Jason, Christina, David, Rachael, Jordan and David Turner; 19 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Burcham Funeral Home, 119 E. Main St., Fairborn.  Services will be conducted tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. at the Calvary Enterprise Baptist Church, with Rev. Billy Joe Conley officiating. Lowmansville resident, Eula Music, 69 died Thursday October 3 1991 in Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Music was born March 29, 1922, in Johnson County , the daughter of Milburn Slone and Cora Dixon Justice. Surviving are her husband, Ernest James Music; one son, James Music of Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Patricia Johnson, of Huber Heights, Ohio; and Caroly Blair of Bellbrook, Ohio; one half brother, Herman Dixon of Albany, Ohio; one sister Beulah Null, of Tipp City, Ohio; two half-sisters, Bertha Ross of Columbus, Ohio and Martha Shoemaker of Hillsboro, Ohio; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, October 6 in Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Dick VanHoose and Jimmy Bevins officiating. Burial was in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville. Jones-Preston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Ollie Rice, 88. Mrs Rice was born November 19, 1902 in Johnson County, the daughter of John Clinton and Helen Johnson Conley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Rice, in 1973. Surviving are seven sons, John Rice of Paintsville, Doug Rice of West Van Lear, Beecher and Paul Rice, both of Spring Hill, Florida, Willis Rice of Dayton Ohio, Caul Rice of South Dayton, Ohio and Lensey Rice of Columbus,Ohio; three daugthers, Hermalee Andy of Garrettville, Ohio, Garnett Green of Springhill, Florida and Helen Violet of Urbana, Ohio; one sister, Arizona Horne of Paintsville ; and 23 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren children. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 26 in Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Jimmy Davis officiating. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 17, for Blanche VanHoose, 82. Mrs. VanHoose was born September 4, 1909 in Johnson County, the daughter of Julius Daniel and Bessie VanHoose. She was preceded in death by one son, Paul VanHoose, in World War II. Surviving are her husband, Hershel VanHoose; four sons, Bobby VanHoose of Paintsville, David VanHoose of Nippa, M.J. VanHoose of Michigan and Charles VanHoose of Catlettsburg; four daughters, Pearlene Stambaugh of Stambaugh, Bonita Daniel of East Point, Joan Burchett of Sitka and Clotene Conley of Somerset; two sisters, Gladys North of Morehead and Faye Rickman of Hager Hill; and 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Officiating at services in Tom's Creek Freewill Baptist Church were Dick VanHoose and Paul Wayne Browning. Burial was in the family cemetery, with Jones-Preston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

John F. “P-Jack” Daniels, 50, died Monday, November 18, 1991. Mr. Daniels was born February 6, 1941 in Johnson County, the son of the late John L. and Patsy Stambaugh Daniels. He was a teacher/assistant coach in the Lawrence County school system. Surviving are his wife, Cathy Preston Daniels; one son, John Mac [Machlin] Daniels of Paintsville; one daughter, Courtney Rae Daniels of Paintsville; three brothers, Charles E. “Tiny” and James V. “Bubby” Daniels, both of Thealka, and Edd Daniels of Tutor Key. Funeral services were held Thursday, November 21 in Paintsville High School’s gymnasium, with Keen Johnson officiating. Douglas G. “Doug” Miller, 58, died Friday, December 27 at his Paintsville residence. Mr. Miller was born March 28, 1933 in Johnson County, the son of Earl and Ruby Kimbler Miller. He was retired from Hensley tire Company and was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. Surviving are his father; one son, Billy Miller of Paintsville; and one sister, Bernelle Murray of Dayton, OH. Funeral services were held Monday, December 30, in the First Freewill Baptist Church, Paintsville, with Revs. Herb Arms and Larry Blair officiating. Judith Gay Adkins Salisbury of Orlando, FL died December 29, 1991. Mrs. Salisbury was born December 28, 1935 in Charleston, WV, the daughter of William H Adkins and the late Jessie Beatrice Adkins. She lived in Louisa for many years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Louisa and the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald A. Salisbury of Louisa. She had four children: Jan Lynn Adkins Simpson, Jay Anthony Adkins, Jon Douglas Salisbury, and Donald James “DJ” Salisbury; two stepchildren, David Salisbury and Donna Renee Salisbury Lemaster; and six grandchildren. She was the sister of William Adkins, II, Wanda Lee Adkins Bail and Shirlie Anne Adkins Anson. Joe Goble Snavely 92,of Little Paint Creek at East Point,died Sunday Dec.22 1991,at the Riverview Manor Nursing Home following a long illness. He was born Sep.7 1899 in Little Paint,the son of Andrew J. & Mahala Music Snavely. He was a retired coal miner.He was a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge and the Little Paint Church of God. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Glenice Wilson Snavely, in March,1956. Survivors include his second wife Della B. Daniels Snavely of Prestonsburg, Walter Snavely of Little Paint Creek and Jack Snavely of Choctan,Oklahoma;three step-sons, Eldon Daniels of Elwood Indiana,George Daniels of Clearwater Florida,and Larry Daniels of Little Paint Creek,one daughter,Wilma S. Messer of Little Paint Creek; five step- daughters,Marie Anderson of Springfield Ohio, Joan Crum of Prestonsburg, Mary Billotta of Cable,Ohio, Betty Bartley of Lexington Ky, and Draxie Dillion of Prestonsburg; two sisters Flossie Holbrook of Ada,Ohio, Lora Mae Derossett of Chula Vista California,six grandchildren,12 great-grandchildren,45 step-grandchildren,and numerous great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Thursday Dec.26 at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Burch officiating. Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel under the directions of the Floyd Funeral Home.
