Atlanta, GA. Mr. Akin was born May 24, 1935 in Johnson County, the son
of Dr. William H. Akin and Lola Belle Akin Blair. Surviving are his
mother, one brother, Dr. James P. Akin of Alexandria, VA and one
sister, Alice Akin of Morehead. Funeral services were held Monday,

Retired insurance clerk, Helen Irene Arms, 56, died Friday, April 3 in
Highlands Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Arms was born February 6, 1936
in Johnson County, the daughter of Estill and Julie Blevins Blair. She
was retired from Island Creek Coal Company and was a member of the
Hager Hill Freewill Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Tony L.
Arms; two daughters, Teresa Trimble of Paintsville and Toni Jean Arms
of Auxier; two brothers, Jim Blair of Hager Hill and Carl Blair of
Clarksville, TN and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held

Floyd Bayes, 89, of Kalamazoo, MI, died Friday, April 24 in Burgess
Hospital, Kalamazoo. Mr. Bayes was born June 8, 1902 in Magoffin
County, the son of the late David Sherman and Delilah Ann Workman
Bayes. He was a retired coal miner and stone mason and was a member of
the Long Fork United Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his
wife, Ocie Ora May Bayes in 1978; a daughter, Emogene Blair, five
brothers and one sister. Surviving are two sons, Floyd Bayes of
Pandora, OH, and Forest Bayes of Paw Paw, MI, four daughters, Erma
Conley of Upper Sandusky, OH, Christine Higgins of Fulton, MI, Maxine
Wince of Lafayette, OH, and Mary Ann Evans of Poway, CA and 24
grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and three great-great

from general labor. Surviving are his wife, Ada Powers Blair; two sons,
Arthur Dean Blair and Wilbur Eugene Blair, both of Leander, six
brothers, Everett, Crate and Raymond Blair, all of Leander, Clay Blair
of West Van Lear, Archie Blair of Miamisburg, OH and Earl Blair of
Franklin, OH; and three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral

iron worker from Hobart Corporation in Troy, OH. Surviving are one son,

Blair of Hager Hill; three sisters, Ethel Weddington of Leander and

Cantrell, 43, who died April 9 in Paul B. Hall Medical Center. Mr.
Cantrell was born March 13, 1949 in Johnson County, the son of the late
Bryan and Ruie Blanton Cantrell. He was a gas and oil driller. He was
preceded in death by one sister, Wynonia Cantrell. Surviving are his
wife, Frances Cantrell; one son, Paul J. Cantrell of Georgetown; three

social worker for the Cabinet for Human Resources and Professional
Women’s Club. Surviving are her father; her husband, Arthur O. Castle;
one son, Paul Arthur Castle of Stambaugh; one daughter Diana Castle
Radcliffe of Lawrenceburg; two brothers, Delmer Pack of Dayton, OH and
Ronald Pack of Stambaugh; six sisters, Mary Blair of West Van Lear,

was a member of the Ramey Branch Church. Surviving are his wife, Nettie
Arms Castle; one son, Ronald Lee Castle of Picnella Park, FL; two

Nippa residence. Mr. Castle was born July 27, 1912 in Johnson

retired miner and member of the Baker Branch Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline Castle; six sons, Lawrence Dwane Castle

He was a retired station master with C & O Railroad and was a
member of the First Church of God in Ashland. Surviving are his wife,

Ruth Trimble, 86, died Saturday, March 28 in Paul B. Hall Regional
Medical Center. Mrs. Trimble was born April 18, 1905 in Pike County,
the daughter of Frank and Clara Crace Murphy. She was a member of the
Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband,
James G. Trimble in 1984. Surviving are two sons, James Clyde Trimble
of Marion, OH and Donald Lee Trimble of Galion, OH; three daughters,
Elizabeth Ann Trimble, Betty Joe Ramey and Georgine Maxine Wells, all
of Van Lear; and 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and two
great-great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. Funeral
services were held Tuesday, March 31 in Van Lear Freewill Baptist
Church with Jimmy Price officiating. Burial was in Murphy Family
Cemetery at Van Lear with Jones-Preston Funeral Home in charge of

Donna L. Webb VanHoose, 50, died Tuesday, April 28, in U. K. Medical
Center, Lexington. Mrs. VanHoose was born August 22, 1941 in Johnson
County, the daughter of Glen and Mabel Centers Webb. She was a cook for
Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center. Surviving are her husband, Leroy
VanHoose; two sons, Roy Gordon VanHoose of Tutor Key and Randy Lee
VanHoose of Southside; two daughters, Terry VanHoose Baldwin of Swamp
Branch and Glenna Jo VanHoose of Southside; two brothers, Glen Webb of
Florida and Ricky Webb of Lexington; two sisters, Patty Griffey of
McDowell and Frances Coats of Springfield, OH; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 1 at Rockhouse Freewill Baptist
Church with Richard Williams and Donald LeMaster officiating. Burial
was in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, with Jones-Preston

Earl Ward, Jr., 45, died Friday, April 17. Mr. Ward was born June 30,
1946 in Johnson County, the son of Earl Sr., and Goldie Ward. He was a
salesman for Kerns Bakery. Surviving are his wife, Cathy Wilcox Ward,
his mother, one son, Earl Rodney Ward of Thealka; two daughters,
Malissa Hughes of Hager Hill and Judy Ward of Thealka; one sister,
Imogene Young of Thelma; and one grandchild. Funeral services were held
Tuesday, April 21, in Bryan Fraley & Son Funeral Home, with Revs.

Rudolph Williamson, 86, who died Saturday, April 4 in Christ Hospital,
Cincinnati, OH. Mr. Williamson, of California, Kentucky, and a former
resident of Floyd County, was a retired lineman from Owen Electrical
Company and a Navy veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife,
Christine Crider Williamson; two sons, Samuel Williamson of Milwaukee,
WS and Darren Williamson of Cincinnati, one daughter, Jamie Raether of
Wilder; two brothers, Roger D. Williamson of Paris and Wallace G.
Williamson of Williamsport; three sisters, Ruby Meadows of
Wittensville, Elizabeth Scarberry of Creston, OH and Kay Rucker of New
Lebanon, OH and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday,

Jewell Young, 76, died Friday, April 3 in Riverview Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Young was born October 4, 1915 in Johnson County, the daughter of
William G. O’Bryan and Esta Woods. She was retired from Island Creek
Coal and was a member of Eastern Star, White Shrine and the Business
and Professional Woman’s Club. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Jay Young, in 1984; two brothers, Everett and Glen O’Bryan and
two sisters, Hattie Slone and Edna Conley. Surviving are her mother,
five brothers, Walter O’Bryan of Nippa, Ernest O’Bryan of
Staffordsville, Charles O’Bryan of New Concorde, OH, Bobby O’Bryan of
Huntington, WV and Billy O’Bryan of Paris; and three sisters, Janice
Mathew of Paintsville, Betty Salyer of Columbus, OH, and Vivian L.
Blanton of Somerset. Funeral services were held Sunday, April 5 in
Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel with Toby Wheeler officiating. Burial
