Levina Jewell
Arrington, 78, of Ashland, died Saturday, April 13, 2002 at her
residence
following an extended illness. Mrs. Arrington was born April 20, 1923,
in Johnson County, a daughter of the late William ``Willie" and Esta
Wheeler
Cox. She was the wife of Labe Hager Arrington of Ashland, who survives.
They were married 60 years. Also surviving are two sons, Hager
Arrington
and Gary Arrington, both of Ashland; a daughter, Shelia Arrington
Porter,
of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Robert J. Cox of Fairborn, Ohio, and
Raymond
Cox of Cincinnati; a sister, Clora Elliott of Americus, Ga.; and four
grandchildren,
Tina Arrington Jones, Gretchen Arrington VanHoose, Malorie Porter and
Chase
Porter. She was a homemaker and attended Garner Baptist Church. The
funeral
will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Marshall Steen Funeral Home by the
Rev.
Jon Black. Burial will be at Rose Hill Burial Park.

Arrowood, 76, of Westwood, Ky., husband of Margaret Arrowood, passed
away
Thursday, April 25, 2002, in King's Daughters Medical Center in
Ashland,
Ky., following an extended illness. Mr. Arrowood was born Sept. 16,
1925,
in Johnson County, Ky., a son of the late Melvin and Etta McKenzie
Arrowood.
He was a retired foreman with Allied Chemical, was a World War II
veteran
with the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Westwood United Baptist
Church.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Arrowood and
Hansel
Arrowood; and one sister, Elsie Ward. Additional survivors included two
sons, L. Roger Arrowood and his wife Kathy of Seminole, Fla., and
Wesley
Arrowood of Westwood; two daughters, Kay Arrowood-Molle and her husband
Paul of Cape Coral, Fla., and Cloretta Fuller and her husband Lloyd of
Russell, Ky.; two brothers, Clarence Arrowood of Wurtland, Ky., and
Doug
Arrowood of Meally, Ky.; two sisters, Mary Preston of Grayson, Ky., and
Naomia Hager of Paintsville, Ky; eight grandchildren; and nine great-
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Saturday, April 27, 2002, at
Westwood United Baptist Church by Elders Clarence Thompson Jr., Homer
Bowling,
Charlie Thompson and A.J. Williams. Interment will follow in Dixon
Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 tonight at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood
and an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Bellomy, 89, of Ashland, Ky., went to heaven Tuesday, April 30, 2002,

she joined her husband, Bennie Bellomy, a son, Paul Bellomy, and four
grandchildren,
who preceded her in death. Mrs. Bellomy was born Nov. 1, 1912, in
Johnson
County, Ky., a daughter of the late Life and Sarah Ann Estep. She was
devoted
to her God, her husband and her 12 children. She was a member of the
Straight
Creek Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed quilting and made quilts for
her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed tending her flowers.
She
is survived by seven sons, Richard and Phyllis Bellomy of Portsmouth,

death.

Jim” “Pops” Boyd, 64, of Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio, died Sunday
afternoon, April 7, 2002 at SCCI Hospital following an extended
illness.
He was born August 19, 1937, in Van Lear, Kentucky to Earl and Myrtle
(Ward)
Boyd. Jim worked as a supervisor until his retirement from Conrail and
was a veteran of the US Air Force. He was an avid sports fan, coached
Little
League, softball and won City Championship in softball in the 1960s. He
stayed with the games until the 1970s as an umpire. Survivors include
his
wife of 46 years, June “Judy” Cates Boyd; son and daughter- in-law,
James
G. & Nauny Boyd of Mansfield; three daughters and two sons-in-law,

County, Ky. Mrs. Havens worked as a beautician. She is survived by two

Funeral services
were held Sunday, April 21, 12 noon at Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel for
Betty Jean Tackett, 57, who passed away Thursday, April 18, 2002,
at Highland Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Tackett was born December 6,
1944 in Johnson County, daughter of the late Dewey and Birtha Fairchild
Selvage. She was preceded in death by her husband, Proctor Carl
Tackett.
Surviving are two sons, Carl J. Tackett and Rodney Lee Webb, both of
Staffordsville;
one daughter, Donna Jean Tackett of Johnson County; two sisters, Dixie
Selvage of California, and Barbara Merle of Indiana; five
grandchildren;
one great-grandchild. The service was officiated by Lowell King and

Pelphrey, with burial following in the Staffordsville Church Cemetery,

Edna Mae Stapleton Vanhoose, 89, who passed away Tuesday, April 2,
2002,
at her Tutor Key residence. Mrs. Vanhoose was born February 3, 1913 in
Johnson County, daughter of the late Johnson and Mary Jane Patrick
Stapleton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dencil Howard Vanhoose; one
son,
Jimmy Wayne Vanhoose; two brothers, Johnson and Edgar Stapleton.
Surviving
are three sons, Johnny and Charles Warren Vanhoose, both of Tutor Key;
one niece; several great nieces and nephews; one half-aunt; four
grandchildren;

Callie Susan
(Spriggs) West, 66, graduate of Meade Memorial High School passed away
April 14, 2002 in Columbus, Ohio. She was a loving wife, mother,
grandmother,
sister and friend whose loss leaves a huge hole in the family's heart.
Mrs. West was born November 13, 1935 in Boons Camp, daughter of the
late
Burl and Jennie Spriggs. She is survived by her husband, Richard;
daughter and son-in-law, Karen (Doug) Thorley; beloved grandson,
Stephen;
sister, Audrey Butcher, all of Columbus; brothers and sisters-in-law,

(Alice) Spriggs, Charleston, S.C., Chester (Josephine) Spriggs, Meally
and Euel (Marie) Spriggs, Dallas, Tx.; sister-in-law Virginia Roberts;
special friend, Caroline Ebright; many nieces, nephews and loving

Peggy Dawn Whitt,
42, of Prestonsburg, died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, following a sudden
illness. Born March 22, 1960, in Paintsville, she was the daughter of
James
Monroe Castle and the late Patricia Marie Gullett Castle. She was a
homemaker
and attended the Third Avenue Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors
include
her husband, Jeffery Whitt; three daughters, Patricia Marie Hatfield of
Prestonsburg, Jennifer Raelynn Whitt of Martin and Melissa Dawn Castle
of Paducah; one sister, Lisa Marie Castle Griffith of Martin; three
brothers,
Ronald Dean Castle of Paintsville, James Monroe Castle and Jerry Andrew
Castle, both of Prestonsburg; and two grandchildren. Funeral services
were
Sunday, April 28, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home,
Martin,
with Manford Fannin officiating. Burial followed in the Castle Cemetery

Loretta Conley, and Lorraine Baldridge; one sister, Ruth Meek of West

Lear; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild. The service was
