Adams, Ronald Gene, age 65, of Tipp City, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004.
He was born December 13, 1938 in Van Lear, KY, the son of the late
James and Hazel (Fraley) Adams. He was a United States Air Force
Veteran, retired from General Motors in 1992, owned and operated Words
For You Video Productions, was a member of the Minerva 99 Masonic Lodge
in Miamisburg, various video organizations, and Quiet Birdmen. He is
survived by his wife, Sherry G. Kistler; one daughter, Ronda G. Adams
of Miamisburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Matt A. And Yoo-Ri Kistler
stationed with the U.S. Navy in Jacksonville, FL; one sister and
brother-in-law, Sherry and Richard Peth of Genda, OH; two nieces, Pam
Schall of Bowling Green, OH, and Dee Gargac of Daytona, FL; one Uncle
and Aunt, Lee Ray and Gwennith Adams of Van Lear, KY. He was preceded
in death by his infant son, Barry Adams in 1966. Friends may call
Friday, April 16, 2004 from 5-7 p.m. at Frings & Bayliff Funeral
Home (Tipp City) with Masonic services at 7:00 p.m. If desired

Patricia Gaye Barton, 41, of Boonscamp, died Thursday, April 1, 2004 at
her residence. Born May 1, 1962 in Johnson County, she was a daughter
of Rodrick “Pere” and Birdie Hall Mollette. She was a member of Little
Friendship United Baptist Church. Additional survivors include her
husband, Carlos Barton; a son, Carlos Dakota Barton of Warfield; two
daughters, Rachel Marie Taylor of Phillis, and Amber Nicola Mollette of
Boonscamp; three brothers, Rodrick Mollette Jr., Travis Wayne Mollette,
and Tracy Brian Mollette, all of Boonscamp; and four sisters, Sherry
Crum of Williamsport, Sandra Cook of Meally, Lana Slone of Phillis, and

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 24, 11 a.m. at the Phelps
& Son Funeral Home for Lola Blair, 53, of Shelbyville, Tenn.,
formerly of Leander, Ky., who passed away Tuesday, April 20. Mrs. Blair
was born August 5, 1950 in Magoffin County, Ky., daughter of the late
Boyd and Armatha Conley Lemaster. She was a housing supervisor.
Surviving are one son, Darrell Blair of Hager Hill, Ky.; four brothers,
Larry and Lonnie Lemaster, both of Urbana, Ohio, Ronnie Lemaster of
Sitka, Ky., and Lenzie Lemaster of Oil Springs, Ky.; five sisters,

Hill Free Will Baptist Church for Lucy Hopper Blair, 67, of East Point,
who passed away Tuesday, April 27 at Central Baptist Hospital in
Lexington, Ky. Mrs. Blair was born July 1, 1936 in Johnson County, Ky.,
daughter of the late Clyde and Southie Harmon McKenzie. She was a
housewife and a member of the Hager Hill Free Will Baptist Church.

FLOYD COUNTY — Thomas Branham, 79, of Prestonsburg, died Wednesday,
April 14, 2004 at Prestonsburg Health Care Center, Prestonsburg. Born
June 14, 1924, in Johnson County, he was a son of the late James H. and
Anna Osbourne Branham. He was a retired coal miner and a U.S. Army
veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Poe Branham, in
2002. Survivors include two sons, Thomas L. Branham of Fostoria, Ohio,
and Tim Branham of Athens, Tenn.; two daughters, Sally Williams of
Athens, and Charlotte of Flat Gap; two sisters, Mae Maynard and Edna
Nash, both of Columbus, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and 18

JOHNSON COUNTY — Jeanette Louise VanHoose Adkins Brown, 68, of Van
Lear, died Tuesday, April 6, at UK Medical Center, Lexington. Born Aug.
7, 1935, in Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Marshall and
Dorothy Robinson VanHoose. She was employed with American Standard. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Eyvind Brown; and two sons,
Kenneth Ray Adkins and Gary W. Adkins. Survivors include a son, Randall
Dean Adkins of Kissimmee, Fla.; a daughter, Rowena Brown of
Salyersville; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Funeral

Sola Alice McKenzie Collins Burchett, 83, formerly of Floyd and
Johnson counties, passed away Thursday, April 20 2004 in Wilmington,
N.C. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Tealey Boyd McKenzie.
She was also preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. She is
survived by two sons, Jerry Collins of Lakeview, Ore., and Wayne
Collins of Honer, W.Va.; two daughters, Jane Perkey of Royal Oaks,
Mich., and Tealey Ellis of Wilmington, N.C.; one sister, Helen McKenzie
Delong of Van Lear, Ky.; 15 grandchildren and several

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 18, 1 p.m. at the Burke
Funeral Home for Bill Calhoun, 62, who passed away Thursday, April 15
2004 at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, Ky. Mr.
Calhoun was born May 25, 1941 in Prestonsburg, Ky., son of the late Joe
and Rosie Warrix Calhoun. He was a self-employed painter and had served
in the Vietnam War. Surviving are one brother, Dewey Calhoun of

was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Irvin Castle, in 1997.

born October 20, 1919 in Johnson County, Ky., son of the late Enoch and
Margret Salyer Greene. He was a WWII veteran and had worked for General

Gladys Hammond. He was a food service supervisor and a U. S. Army

Ronnie Lee Hannah, 55, of Washington Court House, died Monday April 19,
2004 at 12:53 p.m. shortly after his arrival at Fayette County Memorial
Hospital. His death was sudden and unexpected. Mr. Hannah was
born Dec. 26, 1948 in Johnson County, Ky, son of Kenneth and Cledith
(Scott) Hannah. He moved to Washington Court House in 1989 from South
Solon. He was owner and operator of H&H Trucking. Mr. Hannah was
preceded in death by his wife, the former Barbara Christina Hendershott
on Aug. 16, 2003; by his mother on Sept. 24, 2003. He is survived by
three children and their spouses, Rodney and Alicia Hannah of South
Solon, Bryan and Becky Hannah of Xenia, Angie and Jeff Warner of
Jeffersonville, five step-children and their spouses, Scott and Honey

1938, in Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Armstrong
and Lula Curtis Rowland. She was a retired nurse’s aide with
Paintsville Hospital and a member of Enterprise Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Cantrell of Paintsville; two brothers,
Creval Rowland of East Point, and William R. Rowland of Paintsville;
and two sisters, Bertie Jane Melvin of Wabash, Ind., and Billie Jean
Azelton of Clio, Mich. Funeral services were Monday, April 19, at
Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel, Paintsville, with Revs. Don Lemaster
and Gail Music officiating. Burial was in Johnson County Memorial

JOHNSON COUNTY — Jerry Wallace Salyers, 56, of Flat Gap died Sunday,
April 25, 2004 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind. Born June 18,
1947, in Johnson County, he was a son of Georgeann Slone Salyers and
the late James Wallace Salyers. He was a retired truck driver and a U.
S. Army veteran. Additional survivors include his wife, Roxann Warren
Salyers of Flat Gap; two step- sons, Larry Joe Sluss and Robert J.
Sluss, both of Flat Gap; two daughters, Jerrie Lynn Salyers Daniels of
Paintsville, and Nancy Ann Salyers Bailey of Richmond; two sisters,
Wanda Sue Wright of River and Vicky Skaggs of Flat Gap; three
grandchildren; and one step-grandchild. Funeral services will be 1 p.m.
today, Friday, April 30, at Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel, Paintsville,
with Steve Hazlette and Frank Williams officiating. Burial will be in
Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville, under direction of
Jones-Preston Funeral Home. Masonic services were held Thursday, April

Monday, April 5, 2004 at Highlands Regional Medical Center,
Prestonsburg. Born March 21, 1933, in Johnson County, she was a
daughter of the late Franklin and Lorena Howard Williams. Survivors
include her husband, Curtis Stapleton Sr., of Tutor Key; four sons,
Curtis Stapleton Jr., of Tutor Key, Frank Stapleton of Bokelia, Fla.,
Calvin Stapleton, of Beckley, W. Va., and Hansford Ray Stapleton of
Paintsville; three daughters, Nina Hall of Paintsville, and Letha
VanHoose and Amanda Reed, both of Tutor Key; four brothers, Hubert
Williams of Columbus, Ohio, and Eugene Williams of Blackwood, N. J.; 12
grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1
p.m. today, Friday, April 9, at Baker Branch Freewill Baptist Church
with Hollie Jay VanHoose officiating. Burial will be in Curtis

Friday, April 16, 2004 at Highland Regional Medical Center,
Prestonsburg. Born March 5, 1916, in Elliott County, she was a daughter
of the late Henry and Margaret Frazier. She was a cook with Highland
House Restaurant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herschell
Tackett, in 1989. Survivors include two sons, William Reece Tackett of
Paintsville, and Rema Tackett of Michigan; three daughters, Addie Marie
Hensley, Garnett Lynn Lewis, and Darlene Dye, all of Paintsville; a
sister, Virgie Coates of Blaine; 33 grandchildren; 34
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral

Born March 24, 1912, in Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late
Forest and Mary Lou Crace McKenzie. She was a clerical worker. She was
preceded in death by her husband, James B. Williams. Graveside services
were Monday, April 12, at McKenzie Family Cemetery, Volga, with Elders
Sam Reed, Eual McKenzie, and Johnny Curtis officiating. Jones-Preston
