JOHNSON COUNTY — Anna Lee Bailey, 82, of Keaton, died Tuesday, April
26, 2005 at Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center, Hazard. Born
July 22, 1922, in Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late
Wallace and Erie Mae Ferguson Bailey. She was a receptionist with a
hospital pharmacy. She was also preceded in death by two brothers.
Survivors include a sister, Della Jean Ferguson of Keaton. Graveside
funeral services were Friday, April 29, at Highland Memorial Park,
Staffordsville, under direction of Jones-Preston Funeral Home,

JOHNSON COUNTY — Dean Bailey, 79, of Johnson County, died Sunday, April
10, 2005 at Paul B. Hall Medical Center, Paintsville. Born March 12,
1926, in Magoffin County, he was a son of the late Sam and Maudie Allen
Bailey. He was a railroad worker. Survivors include his wife, Olive
O'Banion Bailey of Johnson County; five sons, Clifford and Dean Bailey
of Oil Springs, Kelly Bailey of Van Lear, Sammy Bailey of Indiana, and
Benny Bailey of West Van Lear; six daughters, Mollie Williams, Josie
Wireman, Annie Bailey and Loretta Reynolds, all of Indiana, Maudie
Bailey of Hueysville, and Pearl Moore of Wittensville; one sister,
Bertha Clemens of Indiana; twenty-one grandchildren; and several
great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today, Wednesday,
April 13, at Van Lear Baptist Church with Tommy Meade officiating.

Thursday, April 14, 2005 at his residence. Born Oct. 16, 1986, in
Johnson County, he was a son of Charles Darrell and Shirley Thompson
Baldwin. He was a student. Additional survivors include a sister,
Christina Ann Baldwin of Staffordsville. Funeral services were Sunday,

BLAIR, Burns K. Jr.
2005
Burns K. Blair Jr., age 84 of Englewood, Ohio, passed away on Sunday,
April 10, 2005 at Grace Brethren Village Nursing Home. He was born in
Van Lear, Kentucky. He retired from Chrysler-Airtemp in 1981. Burns was
a veteran of WWII having proudle served in the U. S. Navy. He is
survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gene A. and Alice Blair of
Dayton ; grandchildren , Michelle Blair, Larry E. Blair, Deborah Vergo
and the mother of his children, Thelma Blair. He was preceded in
death by his second wife, May Blair ; son, Larry B. Blair ; parents,
Burns K. and Nell Blair and brother ; Elwayne Blair. The family would
like to thank everyone at Grace Brethern Village for the kind and
loving care provided to Mr. Blair. Funeral services will be held at
1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, at the Kindred Funeral Home , 400
Union Blvd. , Englewood. Interment will follow the service at Shiloh
Park Cemetery in Dayton. The family will receive friends on Thursday
from 12:00 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
BLAIR, Otto
1932-2005
Otto Blair, 73, of Springfield died Saturday, April 30, 2005 in the
Ohio Masonic Home. He was born March 24, 1932 in Paintsville, Kentucky,
the son of Lonnie and Doris ( Taylor ) Blair. Otto retired as a truck
driver and will always be remembered as a family man and loving and
caring husband and father. Survivors include his wife of 45 years,
Delores ( Hayslett ) Blair ; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gina and
Jeff Sanders and Sheila and Chris Zeman , all of Springfield ; three
brothers and two sisters-in-law, Ellis and Wanda Blair, Frank and
Connie Blair, all of Springfield and Danny Blair of Georgetown,
Kentucky ; three very special children, Meredith, Conner and Sidney ;
several nieces and nephews ; three special caregivers, Berryann
Sanders, Olivia Sanders, and Jackie Shaw. He was preceded in death by
his parents and three brothers, James, Bill, and Scotty Blair. A
gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday, May 4, 2005 from
5 to 8 p.m. in the Littleton and Rue Funeral Home. Funeral services
will be held Wednesday at noon with Reverend John Long officiating.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 25, 11 a.m. at the Candy Run
United Baptist Church for Hattie O’Bryan Blanton, 81, of Lucasville,
Ohio, who passed away Thursday, April 21 at the Minford Retirement
Center. Mrs. Blanton was born December 25, 1923 in Johnson County, Ky.,
daughter of the late Elder James Millard and Virgie Emily May O’Bryan.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Blanton; three
brothers, Ervin Kenneth, Thurman, and James Marcus O’Bryan; one sister,
Pearl O’Bryan; three half- sisters, Goldie and Daisy Blair, and Dixie
Osborne. She was a member of the Candy Run United Baptist Church and a
former assistant cook with the Northwest School District. Surviving are
two daughters, Loretta Sue (Ronald) Bender of Columbus, Ohio, and Linda
(Robert) Hall of Lucasville, Ohio; three sons, James R. (Carol) Blanton
and Elder Paul Marion (Carolyn) Blanton, both of Greenfield, Ohio, and
Elder Larry K. (Delena) Blanton of Lucasville, Ohio; one sister, Myrle
Preston of Paintsville, Ky.; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren,
and many nieces and nephews. The service was officiated by Elders David

JOHNSON COUNTY — Marvin Blanton, 74, of Hager Hill, died Saturday,
April 30. Born Dec. 3, 1930, in Magoffin County, he was a son of the
late William and Ida Mae Williams Blanton. He was a welder and a U.S.
Army Korean War veteran. He was also preceded in death by a son, Marvin

April 3, 2005 at Spring Creek Nursing Home, Huber Heights. Born Feb. 3,
1913, in Summer County, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Mack and
Josie Sears Bragg. She was a homemaker. She was also preceded in death
by her husband, Wallace Blanton. Survivors include two sons, Richard D.
"Rick" Blanton of Paintsville, and Adron L. Blanton of Dayton, Ohio;
two daughters, Christine Wells, and Thelma J. Beam, both of Dayton;

Jimmy Blevins, 44, of Lowmansville, died Wednesday, April 12,

Nov. 12, 1960, in Lawrence County, he was a son of the late James and
Fannie Mae Burchett Blevins. He was a block mason with Crossroads
Masonry. Survivors include his wife, Rosie Music Blevins of

Josephine Booth, 81, of Springfield, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on
Sunday, April 10, 2005 in Good Shepherd Village. She was born in White
House, Kentucky on May 15, 1923, the daughter of Isom and Gracie (
Vanhhoose ) Wallen. Josephine was a member of Beatty Free Will Baptist
Church and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents,
her husband Arlen Booth ; two brothers and one sister. Her survivors
include one brother Phillip Wallen of Urbana ; five sisters Irretta
Justice, Lydia Meek, Delores Burr Hurt, Ernestine Barry Aldridge, and
Doris Calvert , all of Springfield ; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Richards, Raff and Dunbar
Memorial Home with Rev. Paul Calvert and Rev. John Wallace officiating.
Friends and family may call one hour prior to services. Burial will
follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

JOHNSON COUNTY — Elizabeth Branham, 82, of Boons Camp, died Wednesday,
April 6, 2005 at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg. Born
April 25, 1922, in Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late
Ballard and Martha Walters Preston. She was a member of Old Friendship
United Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband,
Bernard Branham, in 1982. Survivors include five sons, Phillip Branham
of Chapmansville, W.Va., Randall Branham and Gary Branham, both of
Boons Camp, Steve Branham of Paintsville, and Keith Branham of Flat

died Saturday, April 2, 2005 in Lexington. Born May 17, 1923, in
Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Lep and Flotella Wheeler
Lemaster. She was a farmer, a cook, and a member of Old Hood United
Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell
Caudill, in 1994. Survivors include four sons, Danny Caudill of

United Methodist Church of Paris, Ky., for Douglas Fairbanks Castle,
77, of Paris, Ky., who passed away Thursday, March 10 2005 at St.
Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Ky. Mr. Castle was born April 19, 1927 in
Thealka, Ky., son of the late Craig and George Ann Puckett Castle. He
was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II, former mayor of Paris, Ky., and a
retired commercial representative for South Central Bell Telephone.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Evans Castle of Paris, Ky.; three

also preceded in death by her husband, Chester Paul Compton, in 1996.

BOYD COUNTY — Harold Leslie Davis Sr., 80, of Ashland, died Tuesday,
April 5, following an extended illness. Born Aug. 22, 1924, at Meally,
he was a son of the late George W. and Verlie Fitzpatrick Davis. He was
a W.W.II veteran 1st class boatman's mate with the 58th Taskforce from
1943 to 1946, serving on the Aircraft Carrier, USS Hornet, the most
decorated ship in the South Pacific. He also retired after 30 years as
an A-1 iron pourer with Armco Steel's Ashland Foundry. He was also
preceded in death by former wife, Barbara Rodman Davis; and a brother,
Howard Davis. Survivors include a daughter, Robin Leslie Underwood of
Paintsville; a son, Harold Leslie Davis, Jr., of Ashland; three
sisters, Beatrice Borders, Betty Rice, and Christina Davis, all of
Paintsville; a brother, George W. Davis, Jr. of Ashland; and three

Otto E. " Bud " Hayslett, 62 of Springfiled, Ohio, died unexpectedly on
Friday morning, April 15, 2005 in his residence. He was born in
Wittensville, Kentucky on January 28, 1943 to Luther and Josie
Hayslett. He had been employed as a machinist for Eagle Tool for 33
years and is a United States Marine Corp. Vietnam veteran. He is
survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy C.; three sons and spouse, Otto
E. Jr., Joseph C. and Shawn ( Joleen ) Hayslett, all of Springfield ;
four grandchildren, Mark A., Luther F., Seth C. and Corey J. Hayslett,
all of Springfield ; a special nephew, Jacob Dellapina of Michigan ;
five sisters and spouses, Ruby ( Chester ) Witten of Sitka, Kentucky,
Malta Vargo of Flat Gap, Kentucky, Phyliss ( Phil ) Conley of Oil

away Thursday, April 28. Mrs. Henry was born June 27, 1935 in Ashland,
Ky., daughter of the late Lee and Dorothy Geiger Marsh. She was a 1953
graduate of Paintsville High School, and a Clermont city councilwoman
for one term. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Laura
Williams Brown. Surviving are her husband, Roger Henry; one daughter,

the late Mander and Geneva Arless Manuel. She was a homemaker and of

Emma L. Shell, 89 of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, formerly of Springfield, died
Sunday, April 3, 2005 in her residence. She was born in Kerz, Kentucky
on August 16, 1915, the daughter of Elmer and Flora ( McKenzie ) Jones.
She was a member of the United Baptist Church in Bonanza, Kentucky and
a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1031 and was an
avid bingo player. Emma was preceded in death by her parents ; her
husband Samuel J. Shell ; one son Donald Shell ; three sisters Lavenia
Jones, Edith Kestner, and Cova Cantrell ; one brother Ova Jones. Her
survivors include one son Phiip Shell of Twenty - Nine Palms,
California ; one daughter, Virginia " Carol " Johnson of Ft. Wayne ;
two sisters and one brother-in-law Delores and Joseph Varner of Flint,
Michigan and Virginia Salyers of Swartz Creek, Michigan ; five
grandchildren ; nine great-grandchildren ; and two honorary sisters
Mildred Kestner and Mayme Thompson. Services will be Wednesday at 2
