VIRGIL BLAIR 1920-1948 Virgil Blair, Veteran, Dies September 17 Former Van Lear Man Succumbs In Veterans’ Hospital Virgil Blair, 26, of Estill, former resident of Van Lear, died in the Veterans’ Hospital in Huntington, W. Va., Friday morning, September 17 1948. He was born in this county November 4, 1920, the son of Oscar and Louise Litteral Blair. He was married to Maxine Cooley June 1, 1942, and two children were born to this union. Mr. Blair entered the Army in November 1942, and was wounded in Sicily the following July. He was returned to his home in November 1943. Surviving are his wife, two children, Larry James and Judy, his parents; five sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Eunice Hyden and Mrs. Anna Murphy, both of Van Lear, Mrs. Mary Baldridge, East Point, Mrs. Mabel Williams, Meally, Mrs. Myrtle Wheatley, city, Marshall, Hershel, and Beecher all of Van Lear. The body was brought to Van Lear to the home of his brother on Sunday morning. Funeral services were held by the rev. Russell Ramey of Glo, Ky., at the Christian church at West Van Lear on Tuesday, September 21. Graveside services were conducted by the American Legion Posts of Wayland and Johnson County. Burial was made in the Cumbo Cemetery under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home. Paintsville Herald Thursday 23 September 1948
