Paintsville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for V. L. Pelphrey,
74.
Mr. Pelphrey was born March 12, 1919 in Johnson County, the son of the late
Labe and Lou Williams Pelphrey. He was owner and operator of Pelphrey’s
Grocery and a member of Tarklin Old Regular Baptist Church. He was preceded
in death by his wife, Ruby Hughes Pelphrey, in 1986.
Surviving are two sons, Jerry and Paul Pelphrey, both of Hager Hill; one
brother, Thomas Pelphrey of Paintsville; four sisters, Juanita Holbrooks and
Oakie McKenzie, both of Alger, OH, Doris Painter of Portsmouth, OH and
Bonnie Castle of Desoto, TX and five grandchildren and six great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 7 at Tarklin Old Regular
Baptist church, with Elders Jessie Smith, Gerald Hopkins and Jim Caudill
officiating.
Burial was in Johnson County Memorial cemetery at Staffordsville.
