Mrs. Ethel Phelps, 68, died Tuesday, Aug 31, in the Highlands
Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
 
Born on Jan 9, 1908, in Johnson County, Mrs. Phelps was the daughter
of Grant and Susie Preston Short.
 
She was a resident of Meally and a member of the First Church of God.
 
Surviving are her husband, John Phelps; a son, Clyde of Meally; three
brothers, J. H. Short and Cecil Short, both of Meally, and Arnold
Short of Winchester; two sisters, Nora Jordan and Ruby Williams, both
of Columbus and 2 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday,
Sep 3, in the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Tommy
Reynolds and Moses Kitchen officiating.
 
Burial was in the Preston Cemetery at Meally with Paintsville Funeral
Home handling arrangements.
 
Serving as pallbearers were Tom Short, Clifford Ward, Douglas Phelps,
Francis Phelps, Homer Short, Roger Short, Lloyd Short, Lester
Williams and Russell Jordan.
