Slate Fall Fatal To W. Van Lear Resident Nov. 16

Fairchild Runyon, Jr Breathitt Mine Victim

Fairchild Runyon, Jr., 30, West Van Lear, was killed Nov. 16 in a
slate fall in a breathitt County coal mine. Death was attributed
to internal injuries incurred in the accident.

He was the son of Fairchild and Grethel Maynard Runyon, Belfry and
was born in Raul, West va. He had been a resident of West Van Lear
and was a member of the United Baptist Church and the van Lear
Masonic Lodge.

Surviving besides his wife, Mary Ward Runyon, are two daughters,
Nancy Carol and Judith Ann Runyon, both at home.

Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters; Billy Eugen
Runyon, Harry Thomas Runyon, Mrs. Virgie Chapman and Miss Stella
Agnes Runyon, all of Belfry.

Funeral services were held at the Cedar Grove Church, West Van
Lear, at 10:00 a.m., Nov 19, with Revs. Cully Sparks and F.F.
Rigsby officiating.

The Masons, who acted as pallbearers also conducted gravesite
rites.

Burial was made in the West Van Lear Cumbo Cemetery with Jones
Funeral Home directing.
