MANILA WOMAN DIES FOLLOWING LONG ILLNESS
Mrs. Elizabeth Salyer, 88, died at her home at Manila, January 10, of
an illness of five months. Born June 30, 1864, she was the daughter
of Joseph and Katherine Stapleton Salyer. She was a member of the
United Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband A.L. Salyer, in 1925.
Survivors include three sons, George Salyer, Manila, Roy Salyer, New
Holland, Ohio, and Hobart Salyer, Wheelersburg, Ohio; five daughters,
Mrs. Lula Auxier and Mrs. Clara McKenzie both of Manila, Mrs. Dixie
Salyer, Gypsum, Ohio, Mrs. Ada VanHoose, Staffordsville, Mrs. Cloie
Colvin, Catlettsburg.
Other survivors include one sister, Mrs. Nancy McKenzie of Minnesota,
72 grandchildren, 126 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at Staffordsville at the home of
her daughter, Mrs. Ada VanHoose. The officiating ministers were
Oscar McCarty, Lonza Reed and Foster Colvin.
Interment was at the Auxier Cemetery under the direction of the
Paintsville Funeral Home.
