SARAH J. SALYERS 1879-1961 Mrs. Sarah Jane Salyers, 81, resident of Flatwoods, died Wednesday morning, August 9, 1961 in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Ashland, following a nine days’ illness. The daughter of Silas and Elizabeth Minix Kessinger, she was born at Salyersville December 6, 1879, and prior to moving to Flatwoods two years ago had resided at West Van Lear. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. She was married in 1900 to Charles Salyers, who preceded her in death December 24, 1958. Survivors include a son, Chester Salyers, Springfield, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. W. H. Smith, Flatwoods; Mrs. Ida Dixon, Warsaw, Indiana; two brothers, Newt Kessinger Cleveland, O.; Miles Kessinger, Fort Wayne, Indiana; three sisters, Mrs. Sophia Conley, Beaver, Ohio; Mrs. Bertha Van Hoose, Springfield, Ohio; Mrs. Eula Davis, Ashland. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 12, at the Third Street Freewill Baptist Church with Walter Hooper and Earl Rowland as officiating ministers. Music was by the Paintsville Quartet. Burial was in the Cumbo Cemetery at West Van Lear. Paintsville Herald Wednesday 16 August 1961
