DOW STAPLETON
1906-1974
 
Funeral services were held Thursday, November 27, in the First United
Methodist Church in Paintsville for Dow Stapleton, age 68, who
succumbed to a several months illness on November 25.
 
Born April 13, 1906, Mr. Stapleton was the son of the late Crate and
Mollie Sturgill Stapleton. A resident of Volga, he was a retired
school teacher and had held positions of teacher, supervisor and
coach in the school systems.
  
Surviving are his wife, Alka Auxier Stapleton, whom he married on
March 19, 1924, two sons, F. S. “bus” Stapleton of Cardington, OH and
Johnny Stapleton of Volga, two daughters, Mary Lou Draughan of
Pikeville and Gay Bailey of Paintsville, twelve grandchildren and
three great grandchildren.
 
Reverends Ellis Hamilton and Charles Stapleton officiated at the
services for Mr. Stapleton with interment following in the Stapleton
Cemetery at Volga.
 
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Johnson County School system
and active pallbearers were David Auxier, Clifford “Bo” Burton, J. R.
Frisby, Bromley Patton, Clifford VanHoose and Fred McKenzie.
 
Arrangements were under the direction of the Paintsville Funeral
Home.
