CLIFFORD STURGILL
1913-1990
Thealka resident, Clifford Sturgill, 78, died Wednesday, August 8,
in Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Sturgill was born April 24, 1913 in Johnson County, the son of
Millard and Elizabeth Salyer Sturgill. He was retired from the city
of Paintsville where he was street maintenance manager and was a
member of the Paintsville United Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Leona Pelphrey Sturgill; one stepson, John
R. Pelphey, of Allen; one daughter, Jewell Sturgill, of West Van
Lear; one brother, Millard Sturgill Jr., of Loraine, Ohio; three
sisters, Margie Robbins, of Jenkins, Sarah Rhoades, of Dayton,
Ohio, and Lucenina Collins, of Salyeresville; and two
grandchildren, one great-grandchild, four step-grandchildren and
five step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 10, in Paintsville United
Baptist Church, with Londis Meek and LaFrance Rigsby officiating.
Burial was in Johnson County Memorial Cemetery, with Preston
Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
