RETIRED MINER NEWTON DANIEL
DIES FEBRUARY 26 (1968)


Newton Daniel, age 72, died Monday, February 26 (1968) in a local
nursing home after an extended illness.

He was the son of the late Basil and Arminta Castle Daniel. He was
the minister of the Primitive Baptist Church and a retired miner.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ester Jones Daniel, three
daughters, Mrs. Alene Combs of Hazard, Mrs. Jeanetta Newsome of
Martin, and Mrs. Ruth Tackett of Dayton, Ohio; four sons, Arnold
and Newton, Jr. of McDowell, Gus B. of Fairborn, Ohio and James
serving with the U.S. Air Force in Washington, D.C.; twenty three
grandchildren and five great grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Beuna
Preston of West Van Lear, also survives.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 29 (1968) at 11:00
a.m., in the Buffalo Church at Meally with burial in the family
cemetery at Thelma, under the direction of Hall Brothers Funeral
Home of Martin.
