ELMER HARRIS JR.
West Van Lear resident Elmer Guy Harris Jr., 76, died Friday, June 2, 2000 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Harris was born February 14, 1924, in Herrin, Illinois, to the late Elmer G. Sr. and Lila Mae Piliot Harris. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Wade; and a son, Douglas Harris, in 1993.
Surviving are his wife, Emma Hughes Harris; two sons, James Harris of West Van Lear and David Harris of Alaska; one stepson, J.D. Hughes; five daughters, Linda Mullins and Dianna Wells, both of Thelma, Patricia Lafferty of Meally, Mary Banks of Van Lear, and Sandra Roberts of Pike County; two sisters, Vina Castle of Paintsville and Geraldine Martin of Allen; and 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one step-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 5, at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Manford Fannin and Lowell Webb officiating.
Burial was in Johnson County Memorial Park at Staffordsville.
