John S. Pelphrey, Of W. Van Lear Passes Sunday
John S. Pelphrey, miner and farmer of West Van Lear, died Sunday morning in a local hospital following an illness of a month.
The son of the late Jimmy and Manda Williams Pelphrey,, he was a native of Johnson County and had lived at West Van Lear for the past thirty-three years. He was a member of the Cedar Grove United Baptist Church.
Survivors include his widow Rose Pelphrey, three sons, Sherman Pelphrey, Kopperson, W.Va.; Charles and Malcolm Pelphrey, both of west Van Lear and four daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Conley, Prestonsburg; Mrs. Florence Espy, Dayton, Ohio, Mandy Spradlin, West Van Lear; Mrs. Jennie Conley, Mechanicsburg, Ohio.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday from the Cedar Grove Baptist Church at West Van Lear with John Crum, F.F. Riggsby and Merida Wiley as officiating ministers.
Burial was in the Cumbo Cemetery at West Van Lear.
