RALPH RICE 1898-1957 LONG ILLNESS FATAL SUNDAY TO NIPPA MAN Ralph Rice, 58, died in a local hospital Sunday morning, August 11, following an illness of nine years. The son of Mary Witten Rice and the late Thomas Rice, he was born in this county September 6, 1898, and had been a life- long resident of Nippa. He had been employed in the mines prior to his illness. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Castle Rice and six children, four sons, Richard, U.S. Army, Robert and Francis, both of Chicago, Ill., and Floyd, Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Lopez, Chicago, Ill. and Mrs. Grace Pelphrey, Ypsilanti, Michigan. A sister, Mrs. Richard Salyer, Stambaugh, and a brother, John Hayden Rice, Sitka, also survive. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 13, at the Beech Grove United Baptist Church with Florida Lyons as officiating minister. Burial was in the family cemetery at Nippa.
