JAMES EVERETT SMITH
1891-1967
Jim Smith, 76, died on Saturday, September 30, at 4:15 in a local hospital
after an extended illness.
A retired miner, he was born in Lawrence County on February 26, 1891 and was
the son of the late Curtis and Abbie Wheeler Smith. He was a resident of
Green Town most of his life.
He was afflitiated with the Thealka Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors
include his wife, Margaret Laney Smith.
Other survivors include four sons, George and Bill of Paintsville, John
Henry of Plymouth, Ben of West Van Lear; five daughters also survive, Ruth
Castle of Thealka, May Laney of White house, Virgie Gibson of Mansfield,
Ohio, Thirty-two grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, also, survive.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 2, at 1:00 p.m. in the Thealka
Free Will Baptist Church, with the Don Fraley and Kermit Preston
officiating.
Burial followed in the Thealka Cemetery under the direction of the Jones-
Preston Funeral Home.
