JEMINA AUXIER 1865-1953 Jemina Wheeler Auxier, 88, died Saturday , October 31, 1953, at 6:40 p.m., at the home of her daughter. Mrs. P.T. Holbrook, on Fourth Street. She had been ill for approximately two years prior to her death. Born April 14, 1865, at Johns Creek the daughter of Martin Van Buren and Julia Ann Price Wheeler. She was descended from he early pioneer families who conquered the wilderness of Kentucky to make their, homes and become the leaders in its early development and later progress. A woman endowed with a gracious personality whose manner expressed, warmth and understanding. She had many friends throughout this section who were saddened by the news of her death. She was a member of the United Baptist Church, and during her long life, she applied her strong Christian principles to everyday living by unselfish devotion to the interests of her church, her family, and her community. She was married November 27, 1886, to I. L. Auxier, who preceded her in death March 30, 1953. She was also preceded in death by a son, Fred and a brother and a sister. She is survived by six children; four daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Holbrook of this city. Mrs. Anna Dorton, Lexington, Mrs. Ora Williams, Indianapolis, Indiana, Miss Madge Auxier, Louisville; two sons, George W. Auxier, Washington D. C., and Earl Martin Auxier, Manila. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Lousia Reed, Oil Springs, fourteen grandchildren and twenty two great-grandchildren. Funeral Services were held Monday, November 1, 1953 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Baptist Church with Lonza Reed and F. F. Rigsby as the officiating ministers, Pallbearers were Fred Holbrook, Ray Reed, Emery Dow Auxier, Cecil Auxier, G. G. Auxier, Jr., and Ben ?? Burial was in the Auxier Cemetery at Manlla under the direction of the Paintsville Funeral Home.
