ROBERT AUXIER 1921-1953 Native of Manila Was En Route Home to Visit Father Robert Auxier, 32, son of G. G. and Lula Salyers Auxier of Manila, was killed instantly at 7:00pm Friday night when the automobile he was driving left the highway on US 23, six miles south of Cattlettsburg. A resident of Franklin, Ohio, he was enroute to Manila to visit his father who was recovering from an illness. The victim had been working as a carpenter on a motel construction job at Piqua, Ohio. According to investigating authorities, Auxier was attempting to round a curve when his automobile turned over, he was thrown clear of the car but died instantly when he sustained a fractured skull, broken neck, crushed chest, and fractures of both arms. A passenger in the auto, Billy Lee Pelphrey, 20, of Volga, sustained a head laceration and multiple abrasions. He was taken to King's Daughters' Hospital and dismissed after treatment. Mr. Auxier was born at Manila on March 25, 1921 and was a veteran of World War II. The body was taken to Kilgore-Collier Funeral Home at Catlettsburg immediately after the accident and later removed to the Young Funeral Home at Louisa. Surviving besides his prents are his wife, Nancy Picklesimer Auxier, three children, James Allen, Roberta Lyn, and Susan Elaine, all at home, and the following brothers and sisters, Cecil Auxier, Oil Springs, Chester Auxier, Oil Springs, Carson Auxier, Manila, G.G. Auxier, Jr., Manila, Mrs. R.T. Cooper, Paintsbille, Mrs. Dow Stapleton, Flat Gap, Mrs. J.C. Meade, Louisa, Mrs. Willie Hayes, Miamisburg, Ohio, Mrs. Virgil Meeks, Manila, and Mrs. Harold Britton, Louisa. Funeral services were held at 11:00am, Monday at the home of his father by Rev. Lonza Reed, Rev. Oscar McCarty, and Rev. Foster Colvin. Vocal selections were rendered by the Toms Creek Quartet.
