SARAH BELL DAVIS
1884-1959

Mrs. Sarah Bell O'Bryan Davis, wife of Sammie J. Davis, died of a
heart attack at her home at Hager Hill Wednesday, August 12, at
7:30 a.m.

The daughter of John K. and Ruth Gillon Pennington, she was born
in Elliott County August 7, 1884. She had resided at Hager Hill
for the past twenty-three years, where she was a member of the
United Baptist Church.

Her marriage was to James V. O'Bryan, who preceded her in death
September 20, 1931. She was married at Van Lear to Sammie J. Davis
September 17, 1934.

Surviving children by her first marriage include six sons, Clyde,
Van Lear; John, Hager Hill; Lonnie, Ypsilanti, Michigan; Alonzo,
Meally; Jimmy, Ypsilanti, Michigan; Clarence O'Bryan, Thealka;
five daughters, Mrs. Ruth Page, Hobart, Ind.; Mrs. Bertha Daniels,
Lowmansville; Mrs. Lora Alice Lemaster, Collista; Mrs. Virgie Faye
Holbrook, Hager Hill; Mrs. Roberta Preston, West Van Lear.

Also surviving are four brothers, Frank, Withrope, Washington;
Ora, Ashland; Charlie, Flat Woods; and John Pennington, Ashland,
22 grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Friday at 10:00 a.m., from the
Cedar Grove United Baptist Church at West Van Lear with Tommy
Dalton, Florida Lyons and Millard O'Bryan as officiating
ministers.

Burial was in the Salyers Cemetery at Barnetts Creek.
