LAWTON HOWELL 1887-1959 Native Of County Was Cancer Victim Lawton Howell, 72, of Hot Springs, Virginia, a native of Johnson County, died Sunday, December 13, at his home after a two-month illness from cancer. He was born at East Point May 11, 1887, a son of the late Franklin Pierce and Magie Webb Howell. He was a grandson of A. J. and Nancy Auxier Webb of Block House Bottom. He had been a resident of Virginia for 16 years. Mr. Howell was married to Sally George who died March 1937. He later married Emily Allen. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Conway Howell of Hot Springs, Va., and Phillip Howell of East Point, and six grandchildren. One son, Francis Howell, preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 16, at the East Point Church of Christ by the Rev. S. C. Honeycutt. Burial was in the Webb Cemetery at East Point.
