  CLARENCE RAY PRESTON
1900-1962


Clarence Ray Preston, of Victorville, CA, former resident of this city
and Ashland, died Wednesday morning, November 14, in Victorville hospital
two hours after suffering a heart attack at his home.

He was a brother of Miss Ora M. Preston of this city. A native of
Paintsville, Mr. Preston was born October 4, 1900, a son of the late
Cyrus M. and Minnie Hurt Preston.

He moved to Ashland with his family at an early age and attended Ashland
schools and was a graduate of the Tennessee Military Institute.

During the period his father served as postmaster of the Ashland Post
Office he was employed there as a clerk. He was also employed in the
postal service at Victorville. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Surviving besides Miss Preston are his wife, Mrs. Alice Hardiman Preston;
one daughter, Miss Alice Rae Preston at home; two other sisters, Mrs.
Frank C. Malin of Ashland and Mrs. Esther Preston Runge of Winchester; a
brother, Roger L. Preston of Ashland.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Jones and Preston
Funeral Home with the Rev. David Ross, pastor of Mayo Memorial Methodist
church as the officiating minister.

Pallbearers were Robert Conley. A. P. Preston, Deward Kazee, Herman
Wheeler and Russell Hager.

Burial was in the Preston family cemetery.
