Robert Morris “Bobby” Rice II, born December 28, 1951, died
Thursday, June 10th, 2004, of a coal mining related accident at
Marrowbone Development Company in West Virginia.

Bobby was the son of the late Robert M. Rice Sr. and Betty Davis
Rice of Paintsville, Kentucky.

Bobby graduated Paintsville High School and attended the University
of Kentucky, majoring in business. He obtained a drafting degree
from Mayo State Vocational Technical School and later obtained a
real estate license and engineering degree from Marshall
University. Bobby used his art talent to create many company logos
and as a licensed engineer. He was the sixth man hired at
Marrowbone and worked there for 27 years, with less than a month to
retire. Bobby was certified on underground and surface mining
equipment as well as a mining reclamation and operations
supervisor. Bobby was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church and
enjoyed drawing, boating and fishing, playing music, and most of
all restoring automobiles. The Bobby Rice Memorial Bent Wrench
Award has been established in his honor, and will be presented each
year at the Kentucky Apple Festival in Johnson County.

Bobby is preceded in death by his father, Robert M. Rice Sr. of
Paintsville, Ky.; one daughter, Melanie Lynn Rice Welch of
Paintsville, Ky.; one grandson, Jordan Allen Rice Welch of
Paintsville, Ky.

Bobby is survived by his mother, Betty Davis Rice of Paintsville,
Ky.; one daughter, Alysha Dawn Rice of Naples, Fla.; three
grandchildren, Robert Mica Rice and Baylor Lewis Rice of naples,
Fla., and Joseph Aaron Rice Welch of Paintsville, Ky.; one brother,
George Keith Rice of Nashville, Tenn.; one sister, Bettina Rice of
Plano, Texas; one nephew, Matthew Rice Ensor of Plano, Texas; two
aunts, Beatrice Davis Borders and Christina Davis, both of
paintsville, Ky.; two uncles, Harold L. Davis and George W. Davis
II of Ashland, Ky., and a listing of cousins. Bobby leaves his
dearest companion of 6-1/2 years, Charlotte Spence, and her two
daughters, Megan Spence and Kandice Spence of Lovely, Ky.

Pallbearers were dearest friends Roger Brown, David Blair, Buddy
Sertin, Glen Brewer, and closest co- workers at the Marrowbone
Development Company.

Funeral services were delivered by the Rev. Donnie Patrick at the
First Baptist Church of Paintsville, Ky., with eulogies delivered
by Alyshia Rice, Roger Brown, and the Honorable Susie Mullins
Johnson.

Arrangements by the Paintsville Funeral Home. Burial at the Johnson
County Memorial Cemetery in Paintsville, Ky.
