Virgil E. Salyer, 68, of Van Lear passed away in a local nursing
home on March 4, (1971) after nearly two years of poor health.

He was born in Denver to the late John and Ida Horn Salyer and was
married to Virginia Salyer, who survives him. His first wife,
Ella Johnson Salyer is deceased.

Other survivors include a son in Columbus, Ohio, Richard R.
Salyer; one step-son, Emery Wells of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter in
Wabash, Indiana, Mrs. Patsey Ann Conley; three step daughters,
Mrs. Reva Honeycutt and Mrs. Betty Jo Rice of Paintsville, and
Mrs. Anna Ward in Ypsilanti, Mich.

Also surviving are two sisters from Paintsville, Mrs.Charley
Walters and Mrs. Malta Setser; a brother in Broaden, Fla., Elmon
Salyer, and six step grandchildren.

Lee Music and Charles Stapleton officiated at services held March
7 in the Van Lear FreeWill Baptist Church. Pallbearers were Ray
Rice, Hershell Fields, Dick Conley, Elmer Conley, Dean Johnson and
Elmer Lemaster.

Burial followed in the Salyer Cemetery at Hager Hill, with Preston
Funeral Home in charge.
