Jefferson Hunt figured prominently in the
settlement of the American West. As captain of
Company A of the Mormon Battalion, he and his sons
traversed the deserts of the southwest. Upon being
mustered out, at Fort Moore in Los Angeles, he made
his way to Sutter's Mill and then to Salt Lake
City. He acted as guide for numerous groups from
Utah to Southern California. He helped settle
Provo, Utah, San Bernardino, California, and
Huntsville, Utah. He was a California state
representative from San Bernardino, in which
role he sponsored legislation forming San
Bernardino County. He was twice a member of Utah's
territorial legislature.

His life and ancestry are recorded differently
by descendants of his various children. Clearly,
better evidence exists about events after his birth
than does regarding his progenitors. This site is
dedicated to presenting the known points of view
and the documents which support them. Emphasis is
given to the conclusions drawn by Elaine.

Klea Haynie, Carma Coffin, Elaine Walton and
others gathered relevant documents about the Hunt,
Mounts (Mounce), Crockett, Blasingame, Montgomery
and other families. In this process, documents
about many, as yet undetermined, relations were
acquired. Samples from these collections are also
presented.
