Spendlove Sanders Leatham Genealogy
Last revised May 2013
Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting, the soul that rises with us-

our life's star, has had elsewhere its setting. And cometh from afar.
Not in entire forgetfulness, and not in utter nakedness,
but trailing clouds of glory do we come from God who is our home.

"It is good to look to the past to gain appreciation for the present and perspective for the future...It is good to reflect upon the work of those who labored so hard and gained so little in this world, but out of whose dreams and early plans, so well nurtured, has come a great harvest of which we are the beneficiaries. Their tremendous example can become a compelling motivation for us all, for each of us is a pioneer in his own life, often in his own family..."

'What Is This Thing
That Men Call Death'

What is this thing
That men call death,
This quiet passing in the night?
'Tis not the end, but genesis
Of better worlds and greater light.

O God, touch thou my aching heart,
And calm my troubled,
Haunting fears.
Let hope and faith,
 Transcendent, pure,
Give strength and peace
Beyond my tears.

There is no death,
But only change,
With recompense for vict'ry won.
The gift of him
Who loved all men,
The Son of God,
The Holy One.

They wanted to
create "a city on a hill" or a "holy experiment," whose success would prove that God's plan for his churches could be successfully realized in the American wilderness...."as plantations of religion."....On the occasion of the Church's centennial in 1930, the First Presidency declared: "It was not by chance that the Puritans left their native land and sailed away to the shores of New England, and that others followed later. They were the advance guard of the army of the Lord, [foreordained] to establish the God-given system of government under which we live … and prepare the way for the restoration of the Gospel of Christ."...
