REUNION – CLASS OF 1964

On Saturday, September 28, 2002, the Class of 1964 of Lyons High School had a 38th year Reunion at the Borland home, half a mile South of the corner of US 20 and CR 10-3. The Reunion was preceded by a tour of the Lyons school building which was led by Robert Keller of the Evergreen school board and the janitor. We spent approximately 45 minutes viewing the rooms and decorations.

The decorations were the normal decorations hung up by the elementary students who occupy the elementary wing plus almost all of the old High School building. The top floor of the High School building is not used now for safety reasons. Many old stories were exchanged as we surveyed the hallways, rooms and gymnasium of the Lyons High School building. After posing for a group photo in front of the main entrance to the school, the class members drove their cars uptown to The Depot Museum.

Although still unfinished, we were very interested in the progress that had been made in preserving the old building and the exhibition wing at the rear. The Depot is one of the last evidences of the electric Interurban railway that ran from downtown Toledo, through Lyons and ending in Morenci, Michigan. We hope that other people interested in Lyons will also make a donation to the Lyons and Area Historical Society in order to complete the work. We spent about 30 minutes looking through The Depot and hearing a short presentation, then we adjourned to the Borland home to eat and renew old acquaintances.

We were honored by the presence of our former teacher, Mrs. Mary Harris of Morenci, Habib & Beverly Khan and Helen Flemming. Mr. & Mrs.Borland made us feel very welcome at the pig roast and picnic. We wish to thank them very much for the effort expended and hospitality that they showed us this day.

A memory book of all the year book photos and a name tag with each person's graduation photo was provided to each class member. Songs from our High School days were played while we ate and conversed together. A couple of the photos supplied by Warren White are displayed on this page. Later some of the Class members had Supper at the Lion's Den restaurant in downtown Lyons.

I'll post some of the notes I've received from classmates on this page. Hopefully I'll receive some more photos to display here.
