Obituary Jacob Sidney Miser

OBITUARY NOTICES

        Jacob S. Mizer, son of John and Julia Ann (LETHERO) Mizer, was born in Coshocton Co. Ohio, October 20, 1843 and died in his home in Delta, (Fulton Co., Ohio) December 12, 1918. On Feb. 7, 1864 he enlisted as a soldier in the Civil War, being a member of Co. G, 80th O. V. I. He served to the end of the war marching with Sherman to the sea and in the grand review at Washington.

        On May 24, 1866 he was married to Delilah Schrock and together the same year they settled on the farm 5 miles north of Delta where from the nearly unbroken wilderness they carved out a splendid home. To them were born twelve children, seven of whom have preceded him in death. Those living are Romeo D., William A. Mizer, Mrs. C. P. Hopkins, Mrs. Wm. Harmon and Mrs. Clarence R. Ohlinger, all of whom live in or near Delta.

        He was converted in 1866 joining the Reform church. At the time of his death he was a member of the United Brethren church, Delta. He was for many years a member of McQuillin Post G. A. R. He leaves to mourn, a wife, two brothers, five children.

There is no problem with doing another look-up for you of Jacob Sydney Miser. A check of the "Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio in the War of the Rebellion, 1861-1866" found a listing for him with Co.G of the 80th O.V.I. as you indicated. He is listed as having mustered-in at the age of 20 on Feb. 29, 1864 and mustered-out on Aug. 13, 1865. Of additional interest, there were several other Miser family members in the same Company. John E. Miser (who was 20 when he mustered-in on Nov. 30, 1861), John W. Miser (who was 20 when he mustered-in on March 9, 1864), and Simon P. Miser (who was 18 when he mustered-in on Feb. 17, 1865).

As I suggested before, you might consider sending to the National Archives for any pension file which might be helpful. The appropriate form can be obtained by writing the General Reference Branch (NNRG-P), National Archives and Records Administration, 7th and Pennsylvania Avenue NW., Washington, DC 20408.
