IS POLIO VICTIM Funeral Wednesday For Father Of Three
Joseph J. Schmitt, 29, of Paintsville, father of three, died at 10:30 p.m. Sunday in St. Joseph's Hospital in Lexington after a brief illness from poliomyelitis. He was removed to the Lexington hospital on Saturday after becoming paralyzed below the waist.
He was the husband of the former May Wells, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Wells of this city.
Born in Paintsville on Dec. 29, 1921, he had resided here most of his life where he was engaged in the drilling of oil wells.
He was married on April 17, 1945, and after serving four years in the U. S. Army during World War II, he continued to make his home here.
He was affiliated with the Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, one son, Michael Joseph, 5; two daughters Nancy Catherine, 3., and Ruth Meyers, two months; his father, Joseph F. Schmitt of Pittsburgh and one brother, Robert W. Schmitt, also of Pittsburgh.
His mother, Ruth Meyers Schmitt, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 24, at 10:30 at Our Lady of The Mountain Chapel by Rev. Joseph Wimmers.
Burial was made in the Wells Cemetery at Boons Camp under the direction of the Paintsville Funeral Home.
