STAFFORD,Georgeann
GEORGEANN STAFFORD
1849-1950

(PARTIAL OBITUARY)

married to Jesse Stafford, prominent businessman of this vicinity, who
preceded her in death on May 9, 1935. To this union ten children were
born, six of who survive.

Mrs. Stafford was born when the California gold rush was just beginning,
and she had lived under 18 presidents.

She was one of the few Johnson County citizens who witnessed the
replacement of clipper ships by steamships, covered wagons by railway
trains, and the birth and growth of industrialization with its attending
events in our nation. With an alert mind that she possessed until the
last few months before her death, she could look backward over a century
of progress and war and peace. A devout Christian, "Aunt Ann" died as she
had lived in peaceful and steadfast Christian faith. Before her health
failed, she attended the First Christian Church of which she was a member,
and she kept the practice of having hymns sung by the family each Sunday
evening followed by prayer. Her Bible was her constant companion.

She was physically active until well past 90 but she gradually grew weaker
until she was forced to take her bed about two years ago.

Surviving are three sons and three daughters. Harry G. Stafford, city,
Ralph Stafford, Staffordsville, Jesse Stafford, Grayson, Ky., Mrs. Rose
Spradlin, Staffordsville, Mrs. Mollie Littman and Mrs. Beatrice Griggsby,
both of this city. Collista and Lou preceded her in death while in infancy
and Flora Stafford Swetnam and Clara Stafford Stapleton died since 1935.

Also surviving are about 115 grandchildren and great grandchildren and a
great number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 6, at 1:00 P.M., at the
First Christian Church with Rev. Harold Burnside officiating.

Burial will be in the Stafford Cemetery at Staffordsville. The body will
remain at the Jones Funeral Home until time of the funeral.
