Rites At Wells Chapel For Prominent Man
Charles Jefferson Wells, 78, died of a heart attack at 9:40 a. m., December 21, at the home of his son, Curtis, city. He had been ill for ten months.
The son of William Allen and Mary Hicks Wells, he was born December 18, 1872, at Boons Camp, and was a member of one of the county's largest and most outstanding families. He was a member of the Wells Chapel Methodist Church, at Boons Camp.
He spent his early life in the profession of teaching and was a recognized farmer of the county. He was for several years a member of the Agricultural Conversation Association.
Due to ill health, he had spent considerable time in Florida during the past few years. He had been an invalid for the past ten months.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria, who died October 28, 1920, and the following children: Norman, Beulah, Ethel, and John Wilson.
Surviving are four sons and three daughters; Russell, Williamsport; Curtis, city; Raymond, Martinsville, Ohio; Woodrow, Chicago; Mrs. Alka Mullins, Ashland; Mrs. Iuka Dutton, Chattaroy, W. Va.; Mrs. Anna Lee Stepp, Chattaroy.
Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. G. C. Perry, Louisa; Mrs George Walters, Shoals, W. Va.; R. G., Pikeville; John L. and G. C. Wells, of this city.
Funeral rites were conducted at 2:00 p. m., December 24, at the Wells Chapel Church, with the Revs. Charles Perry and S. R. Rooker officiating.
Burial was made in the Wells Cemetery under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home.
