VENCIL NELSON
1913-1975


Vencil Nelson, of Thealka, died Thursday, Feb 13, at the age of 61.

A disabled miner and member of the Freewill Baptist Church, he was born Sep
4, 1913, the son of the late Will and Emmalyn Lyons Nelson.

Mr. Nelson was a veteran of World War II, serving with the US Navy and
received an honorable discharge on Nov 25, 1945. He received the Asiatic-
Pacific Medal and the American Theatre Victory Medal for gallant service.

Mr. Nelson was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 18.

Surviving are his wife, George D. Golden Nelson; two sons, Edgel Ray Nelson
of Marion, OH and Vencil Nelson, Jr. of Dayton, OH; three daughters, Blanche
Carter and Marie Nelson, both of Thealka, and Mary Anna VanHoose of Spring
Valley, CA; 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Also a brother, Ike
Nelson of Paintsville; a sister, Virginia Gullett of Thealka; a half
brother, Charley Nelson of Sheridan, IN and a half sister, Lora Stambaugh of
Green Groves, FL.

Funeral services for Mr. Nelson were held Sunday, Feb 16, in the Thealka
Freewill Baptist church with burial following in the Castle Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home.
