Obituary
Susie Walters Preston, daughter of the late W. H. and Elizabeth Preston Walters, was born November 1, 1885, at Offutt, Ky. Departed June 26, 1950.
She was married to James L. Preston, 1909, who passed away 1930. The following children survive: One daughter, Mrs. T. S. Gash, Mills Springs, N. C.; two sons, James Walter and George Russell at home, and one granddaughter, Barbara Pinson Gash of Mills Springs, N. C. (A daughter, Jewell Lee, died in infancy.) Also surviving are: one sister, Mrs. Exer Preston of Ephrata, Washington, and three brothers, Shade Walters of Malta, Ohio, Dr. W. J. Walters of Pikeville, Ky., and U. S. Walters of Offutt, Ky.
At the age of 20 she was converted and joined the United Baptist Church and was a member of the church for 44 years. She and her husband were ordained deacon and deaconess of Paintsville Church May, 1924, and they served the church faithfully until their passing.
She had been in declining health more than a year, but God relieved her a all suffering Tuesday morning 7:15 a.m. As a Christian her life was unquestionable, as a devout mother none could excel her. She was a good neighbor and a wonderful homemaker.
For several years she was an outstanding teacher in the county and city school systems.
Truly we mourn her crossing, but rejoice in the great hope of her Eternal Life.
A precious one from us has gone, A voice we loved is stilled; A place is vacant in our home, Which never can be filled.
She always leaned to watch for us, Anxious if we were late, In winter by the window, In summer by the gate.
Her thoughts were all so full of us She never could forget! And so I think that where she is She must be waiting yet.
Waiting till we come home to her, Anxious if we are late, Watching from Heaven's window, Leaning from Heaven's gate.
