from Dresden Enterprise Friday, July 31, 1903 In the case of the Greenfield bank vs J. R. HEATH, judgement was given for the bank for $140 and interests and costs. This case grew out of  alleging forgeries by John W. TILLMAN at Greenfield. TILLMAN fled the country about a year ago, leaving a lot of papers in which it was charged he had forged the names of various parties. In the HEATH case, Mr. HEATH admitted he had signed a note for $140 with the said John W. TILLMAN some years ago, payable to said bank, but that he never signed such a note since that time. It seems from the evidence that after he signed the note, when it came due Tillman got it from the bank and substituted a new note, to which it is alleged he forged HEATH’s name, and this operation was repeated  each time the note came due until the matter came to light and TILLMAN abscounded. The court held that HEATH was liable.

Notes for John Washington (Child 5)
Info on John Washington family from Sue Wolverton. She writes: “I have very fond memories of spending some time every summer in Greenfield.  I was always struck that we were immediately known throughout the town as "Mr. John's" grandchildren from Michigan.  Of course, in retrospect, all we had to do was open our mouths to be known!  Everyone knew we were coming.  But as a kid I was flattered to be recognized by the man in the drugstore, the owner of the corner BarBQue stand, etc. We would have huge picnics out in the field beside Roscoe and Buelah's house on the farm with dozens of people present.  This would be at noon, in the heat of the day!  I do remember the Heat!”

From the Greenfield Gazette:

October 3, 1947 Prominent Citizen Passed Away Early Wednesday Morning
Coming like a thief in the night was the death of  Mr G. H. Drewry Wednesday morning at 3:15, October 1 at his home on Broad Street. While Mr. Drewry Had been in declining health for several months his condition grew worse rapidly. He had been in Memphis for examination and had expected to return for treatment. He was 75. Mr Drewry was born east of town, the son of the late Richard Clark Drewry and Malinda Harrell Drewry, prominent pioneer citizens. He grew to young manhood on the farm, later moving to Greenfield and engaging in the grocery business for thirty seven years, where he made many friends by his genial disposition and straight forward dealings. When still a young man, he became a Christian and joined the Prebsyterian Church where he was an elder for many years. He married Miss Betty Heath December 25,1898 and four children blessed this union, one little girl, Lorene, dying when four years old. Mr Drewry’s memory will be cherished for his genial disposition, thoughtfulness of others, honest, his devotion to family and friends and he will be sorely missed for the community has lost a good, substantial citizen, the church a faithful member and the family a sacrificing husband and father. Services were held at 2 Thursday afternoon in the Presbyterian church with his pastor, the Rev. S. O. Payne, officiating. Burial was in Highland Cemetery with Greenfield Undertaking Company directing. Mr Drewry is survived by his wife, three sons, Earl of Nashville, Dean of Chicago, and Harold of Greenfield. There are five grandchildren George, Dickey, and Mary Anne of Nashvillle, and Dave[Dean] Tansil of Chicago; also three brothers, Harve Drewry and Hoyt Drewry of  Greenfield and Otis Drewry of Jackson. Active Pallbearers were Maurice Belew, Roy Barton, Walter Pope, Charles Huffstettler, Will Edd Akin, Thomas Akin. Honorary Palbearers were B.F. Adcock, Tom Cannon, Horace Drewry, H.O. Notes for William Andrew CAUDLE
William Andrew, besides being a farmer, at one time also ran a horse breeding business.  He had a very pretty stallion that a gentleman from Mississippi wanted for his delivery hack.  In fact, the gentleman's desire for this stallion was so great that he traded 245 acres of virgin timberland in Mississippi (which included some old plantation homes) for the stallion.

In December of 1916, after  Estelle (born on November 14) was a few weeks old, William Andrew and Millie with their family (the exception was May who was then 16 years old and married to Jesse Needham) started their adventure to Mississippi with 2 covered wagons.

The first night was spent in Atwood, Tennessee with Minnie and Alec Galey (William Andrew's sister and brother-in-law).  They reached Medon, Tennessee on the 2nd or 3rd night where they became snowbound with the first heavy snow of the season.  A Mr. Taylor happened to be present when they arrived in Medon and upon learning of their sad state of affairs offered them the use of a vacant house that he owned as he had just built and recently moved his family into a new home located directly behind the old one.

They "camped out" in Mr. Taylor's vacant house, using the fireplace for their cooking and their only source of heat.  They kept getting fresh snow and Ola (and probably several of the other kids) had a bout of chicken pox so their departure was delayed for two weeks.  At Mr. Taylor's suggestion William Andrew leased a box car on the freight train and put the 2 teams of horses and wagons into this box car and sent along Robert and Boyd to care for the team and started them on ahead while the rest of the family followed on a passenger train.  The passenger train arrived at their designation in Mississippi first and the family stayed at the hotel and waited until the freight train, teams and wagons with Robert and Boyd arrived.

After leaving the hotel they "camped out" (sleeping under the wagons) at least one night in the middle of "bottom land" before reaching their property.  Millie often laughed years later saying as they traveled along with their 2 covered wagons the people along the way thought they were a bunch of gypsies traveling though.

Both J.B. and Inez were born while they were in Mississippi (Scott County).  Since Inez was born in May of 1921, the span of years they lived in Mississippi was from December of 1916 until 1923.

The trees on the Mississippi property were again harvested in 1934 by Boyd's family.  Devon was born while they were there.  The property was eventually taken over by the state of Mississippi for unpaid taxes.

Listed on 1880 census as 6 yrs old.

He moved away - wife and children died - moved back to Greenfield - known as Jim Campbell. Jerry C. used to talk with him - told him about Old Hall and Greenfield - said that the depot was named Greenfield before they decided to put a town there. That hey moved some buildings from Old Hall into Greenfield and the people that were living around Old Hall moved into town.

Wade Hamilton CAMPBELL 2 Obituaries -- papers unknown...from Michael Campbell

Wade Campbell, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Campbell, died at his home in Fulton, Ky, Friday, Feb. 9th of typhoid fever. Wade was an excellent young man with good habits.  He was full of business and was making quite a success in the Insurance business at Fulton.  A few years ago he married the daughter of Mr. A. G. Exum, formerly of Sharon (Weakley County, TN), and their married lives were happy ones.  After fitting ceremonies his remains were interred at Fulton. After an illness of two weeks from typhoid fever, W. H. Campbell died at his home last Friday.  For the past year Mr. Campbell has been writing life insurance in Fulton.  He was reared in Greenfield, Tenn., and was 23 years old.  He leaves a wife and child six months old.

OBITUARY

When the messenger of death passed over the city of Fulton and claimed as his victim Bro. Wade H. Campbell re robbed the city of one of her good citizens, his parents of a dutiful son, his wife of a loving companion, his six months old babe of a doting father. With mortal vision we cannot see why he was taken so early in life but we know that our God who even numbereth the hairs of our head and allow not that a sparrow should fall to the ground without His notice, doeth all things well. Though the friendly ties have been broken and hears which leaped for joy are now broken and sad, we know that with the unfolding of the future we will fully understand, and in the beautiful beyond, where kindred spirits meet, joy shall be reaped for sorrow. Bro. Campbell was born in Weakley County, Tennessee Jan. 22, 1882, married Miss Lula Exum April 1903, about one year after which he became a citizen of Fulton, where he lived till death occurred Feb. 9, 1906. Wade was a Christian and by the Spirit of the Master, which was prominent in his life, he won for himself many friends, which was fully demonstrated by the host which assembled for the funeral service at the residence, which were conducted by the writer Feb. 10.  By the loving hands of his fraternal order, the Woodmen of the World, his remains were laid to rest in the City Cemetery.

Brazier, at Weston, Ky.  A year later he began taking lectures in Cincinnati, Ohio, and graduated as an M. D. from a medical institution in that city in 1860.   June 9, of the same year, he visited his first patient at Weston, Ky., and has plied his profession ever since, meeting with good success.    In 1862 he came to Weakley County, Tenn., and located on his farm of 125 acres, where he continued to reside and practice until 1876, with the exception of about two years spent in the Eleventh District.   January 13, 1863, he married Anna Hughes, born in Weston, Ky., in 1841, by whom he has two children: John, an M.
